On watches that have Roman numerals the figure 4 is shown as IIII and not IV, why is this?

I'm going through a break up. I know I am doing the right thing for both of us. However, all he wants to do is continually try to guilt me into staying. How do I handle it until we can financially part ways for good?

There are 6+ billion people in the world.

Realistically most of us will only come into contact with at most 1 million. Of that million, half will be of the same sex.

We are now left with 500,000 people. Of these people we will find about 10% are gay so we are now down to 450,000

of the 450,000 at least 75% will be out of our age range (too old or too young)

That leaves 112,500 people that are still eligible. Of those, 80% are going to be unacceptable due to being too skinny, too ugly, too pretty or too fat.

That leaves 22,500 people. Now at least 80% of them will find YOU unattractive based on the above reasons. We are now left with 4,500 people. Of these 4,500 people at least half will me married so we are now down to 2,250. Of these 2,250 people, you will only have more than a passing moment to speak with at best 10% of them. That takes you to 225 people that you are still good to go with.

Now spread that evenly over your life and that is about 4 people per year.

Any one notice that almost every war is based around religion. Maybe religion is a ploy to fight which would make Jesus and Muhammad like dictators. What do you think?

My daughter will be 6 months old on Christmas and my mother in law bought her about eleven toys and there is really no point in us getting her anything. She is buying our son who is five a Wii and tons of other things. It made me upset but I thought they are their only grandkids and I can’t really say anything if they want to get it for them. But I would like to have gotten them something. At thanksgiving my mother in law asked what my husband wanted for Christmas. I told here I was getting him a nice watch. He has a watch but I wanted to get him something that he can wear to church, something really nice. Well I went looking and my mother in law went with me and I couldn’t find any thing at the store we went to. Well she just called me up saying she bought him this nice watch and not to worry about getting him it. Well when I got off the phone I started crying because I feel she is being a glory hog. What do you think?

Isn't religion all about blind faith, indoctrination and dogmatic behavior?

Why would Christians try to counter the theory of evolution with fantasy-riddled "arguments", like gods poofing everything into existence in six days, or gods wiping out mankind in a flood?

If their faith is so strong, why would they bother to defend it? If it's so obvious to them...I mean, I don't see anyone claiming or arguing that silver and gold are shiny metals....

I have learned there are many people here that love the Lord and have a great deal of Spiritual Wisdom..

I also have learned many Atheists, some whom are nice and can be humorous never have anything to say in defense of thier non-belief
GOD does not exsist-How would they find a remedy for the world and society's problems?, they say get rid of religion, and replace it with what?
I might ask alot of questions- But how else do you dig in a person's brain to see how they truly tick?

According to countless studies done across America most Americans can't read above a sixth grade level but hey lets push it and go to 8th grade. Most religious text aren't at an 8th grade level just because a lot of them are highly detailed and very philosophical. How is it that there are so many religious people in America if the majority of Americans can't read the text they are adhering their life to? The same could even be said of Atheist as well if science is the justification of your belief but if you can't read indepth scientific study because those are written way above an 8th grade level how do you get your belief or lack there of from it?

OK, I know it isn't all Muslims that are extreme, but these recent events;
the 9/11 attacks, 7/7 attacks, the British teacher being jailed, losing our identity as a nation.....
These are giving Islam a terrible name and it is seen as a religion somewhat stuck in the past with its appaling laws, inequality and terrible Human Rights record.

What are your thoughts?

I'm asking this out if curiousity so i'm not looking for low blows about anyone's beliefs...

I've heard that atheists do not believe in predetermined fate, so my question is, do you believe we determine our own fate? or you don't believe in fate at all?

The reason I ask is because when the VT massacre happened, I kept thinking... these kids went to school, a good school, so they can have a bright future, and BAM they get killed... or what if you live in a nice neighborhood, live a healthy lifestyle, then BAM a tree falls on you and kills you in a freak accident...

What's your beliefs on death? Is it just something that happens, do you believe you can prevent death? Just wanted to gain insight to some different atheists beliefs about fate and your views on how death works.

a young woman I lived with approx. 1989-1994. She had 2 daughters, J & R. The mom, M, will not allow contact now. The courts are not involved yet, and attorneys I contact tell me that if I exersize my parental right and get the courts to mandate visits the court will also mandate a child support fine, so large that it is in my best interest to not try and see these kids. i disagree. so does my religion. I am searching an attorney and asking for ways to repair, reconcile, or at least get a definate Y or N in the childrens best interest.

My basis of non-belief is as simple as this...

santa claus uses "magic" to reach all the boys and girls in one night.

Peter pan uses "magic" pixie dust to fly back and forth to neverland(somewhere in space)..

superman uses "superpowers" (equal to magic) to fly, and lift hundreds of tons...

Yoda uses "the force" (also equal to magic) to levetate objects with his mind(telekenesis)

and all of these things are "fiction"

God uses "miracles" to do great things(also equal to magic)

does anyone else see the obvious place the being noted above belongs?

"No-one can argue about the authenticity of the bible, it's clearly proof of god's existence. There's NO denying it. And they say that WE'RE illogical. It just makes me sick to see people disgracing Jesus Christ and deliberately choosing hell. I KNOW I'm going to heaven because I accepted Jesus Christ as my saviour. We all have free will and I CHOSE to love Jesus, in return he is giving me eternal happiness. Atheists say "How can the bible be proof?". Well, on page one of the holy book itself it says God created everything. God hates you if you reject him, because we all KNOW the truth, it's up to you to choose to be ignorant of God's existence or to be saved like me. It's fine by me, you all deserve hell by rejecting himself, and I couldn't be more happier."

It's people who say things like this who honestly make me nervous when I see shady people in trench coats. Is this not proof that no single religion is more of a dilluted disaster than any other? It's verbal suicide bombing
