As an Englishman, in this country ( UK ) we find it very difficult to understand why anybody would condone the carrying of Guns. With so many of your childen being shot and killed in the USA isn`t it time for common sense and vote for a change in the Gun law `s ?

I mean, it really doesn't offer that much does it? No heaven, no living for ever, no meeting up with dead loved ones "on the other side." No festivals to enjoy, no special someone in the sky to talk to and love them. I mean, there are no cozy parts to it, but it is spreading in popularity. Why do you think this might be?? Seriously?

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.

Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge —
no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.

I don't want 'because the bible/quran/torah tells us to' answers. Personally, deep down why do you believe that there is a god? has he touched you in some profound way?

stuff like that.

Someone else on here said that most atheist will wise up and return to God when they get older. They will let Jesus into their hearts. After all, there are very FEW atheists in nursing homes.

Interesting point.

Do you agree?

I have done volunteer work for nursing homes before and during all the months I worked there, about 99% of the senior citizens there were Christian. There was only like one or two people that I talked to that weren't sure what they believed in.

Do you think this supports the fact that most atheists will go back to God eventually?

A number of history books i have read have suggested that religion was used as a method to control people. i.e. If you don't do what the bible and church say you will go to hell or be punished.

They also suggest that religion is one of the biggest money making businesses in the world. I have seen proof of this while browsing a God Channel and seeing videos selling £60. If they really wanted to save our souls shouldn't they sell them in HMV/Virgin for £5

I believe i could fabricate a story to make people feel better about their lives and the questions they can't answer.

Is religion still used as way controlling people with something missing in their lives?

I see many christians think it is ridiculous that some muslims are upset about the naming of a teddy bear.
However, weren't many christians upset about the chocolate jesus statue and viewed it as an attack on christianity?

I dreamed last night that I was at a football game, and there was a Native American football team against another, but that wasn't the weird part...

All of a sudden I was on a huge rock mountain cliff, but I was watching a movie about Native Americans in the clouds. I began to cry, and next to me appeard an Indian with a tall hat with a feather, he had long hair, and about 68 years old. He hugged me, then all of a sudden I was with other Indians on horses, and they were jumping through a wind catcher in a cave. I woke up shortly after that.

I have no idea what it means, if anything, but if anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them!!!

This is an important issue to me and I want to hear what you think. I have a family member that is an atheist.

This troubles me because I believe the only way to get into Heaven is to be a Christian.

I have done alot of reading and there seems to be three main theories:

1) Non-Christians who refuse Jesus will cease to exist (I personally disagree with this one and find it a little strange but there are some people out there that believe that)

2) Non-Christians will go to Heaven because the sacrifice of Jesus was for everyone

3) Non-Christians who hear about Jesus but refuse to accept the sacrifice will go to Hell

I personally agree with the third one which troubles me because of the situation my family member is in.

I believe we are all sinners and we all deserve Hell as no unclean thing can enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but Jesus died to wash our sins clean that if we accept Him, we can go to Heaven.

What do you think will happen to non-Christians?

From reading the bible it seems that God originally didn't plan on creating Eve. It appears that he watched Adam for a while and then decided to make her from Adam's rib. This does not seem to fit with the idea of him being all knowing. This seems to happen a lot in the old testament. I see it as evidence that the idea of who god was evolved over time, that perhaps the writer of Genesis didn't think God was all powerful etc.
