A lot of religious folks seemed determined to disbelieve it, come what may. Is that because evolution endangers their religious beliefs?

I'm from Japan and studying in the US now.
While I was doing my assignments, I found the following expression;

"Be there, or be square."

What does this mean? Is this a figurative way to describe something? I can't imagine a person being a square (shape). This sounds really weird.
Could you tell me what this expression means?
Thank you for your help!

Here the louder voices generally come from the most violent, aggressive, bigotic, biased and intolerant users, and these same voices seem to have a sort of following here....

Rarely do many of the users here provide lukewarm answers when their beliefs are challenged, and too many engage in a reporting/bashing Jihad...

Those voices who call all to gather and make friends with everyone are deemed as hopeless Pollyannas asking boring questions and giving boring answers....

Whatcha say??

I have heard people say that there is a sort of gay gene that will make you more likely to be gay (in other words being gay isnt a choice). that must be the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. I would think that certain traits may make you more likely to end up gay than someone else who does not have those traits, what traits I dont know... flimsy hand maybe, seriously though, maybe more sensitive, or open to try new things. This leads me to believe that being gay is obviously a choice. you just may be more likely than others to make the choice of being gay. for example some people are fat because genetically their bodies tell them to eat more while others have no problem turning away from a peice of cake. what do you all think?

I didn't even get my question loaded when they wiped it out!!!!! I asked if being a compassionate, empathetic, caring person was the way to go in life or does it serve you better to stave off disappointment and be selfish and not have to care about anyone else? Your thoughts please? (I'll get this in one way or another!)

Christians who love the Lord - are YOU praying for our nation at this critical time? Are you asking God to heal this nation, and to bring us a Godly President in the next election? If you are not doing this, why not ???

I'm just a lil confussed about many Christians believe in Jesus ( peace be upon him) I say this out of respect to all phrophets of God, this doesnt mean i believe Jesus is dead!!!!

Anyways, i would just like to ask you guys how you see Jesus.

<> We know the Bible says 'God is One' and, "Thou shalt not have any 'gods' beside God."

Today Christians are presenting a vast variety of explanations on how God can actually be "One and Three at the same time."

Some attempt to resolve the issue saying, "Jesus is Lord!" or even "Jesus is God." (May God save us from any blasphemy).

"Trinity" is not found in Scripture. Of course, there is no verse that says "God is three Persons" or "God is a Trinity."

Please can anyone be so kind to give me your view/opinion on this.

Can a person avoid going to hell by simply opting for standard cemetery cremation vs traditional methods where the body is kept asleep/embalmed/plasticized until the resurrection?

Christians often use the term that the departed has simply fallen asleep and is simply waiting for godot...oops...God.

I know most people find the sound of someone blowing their nose to be gross (personally, I could care less).

So if you are at work (in a cubical) and you have a cold is it inappropriate to blow your nose at your desk? Should you get up and go to the restroom each time you have to blow your nose?

Question: Who wrote this?

"God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God. (1 Jn 4:16). These words from the First Letter of John express with remarkable clarity the heart of the Christian faith: the Christian image of God and the resulting image of mankind and its destiny. In the same verse, Saint John also offers a kind of summary of the Christian life: We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us”.

Don't know? Well, if you can't guess, here is the answer:

Do you have the tendency to correct somebody's pronunciation or phrase usage if that person you're talking to has an accent that's not from English speaking countries (like Britain, US, Canada etc) even though he or she might be fluent in English?

For example, if you are an American, you would probably understand it when a British says "rubbish" (as oppose to trash) but would you correct him/her by saying, "Oh, you mean trash?"? Are you more likely to correct that person if he/she is from a non Western country, say India or China?

I guess this is more about communication between peers or coworkers rather than client or managers because it would be inappropriate to do so for the latter. But I am just curious if native English speakers would unintentionally assume that non native speakers are not as good in the command of the language, thus, more likely to correct them despite their fluency in English.
