I know most people find the sound of someone blowing their nose to be gross (personally, I could care less).

So if you are at work (in a cubical) and you have a cold is it inappropriate to blow your nose at your desk? Should you get up and go to the restroom each time you have to blow your nose?

I'd blow my nose if needed (you are in a cubical)...
Gee .... imagine if you had a cold and you went to the restroom everytime you need to blow your nose, how much time would actually be spent away from your desk? Alot!! (You work may suffer or your boss might think you are not working hard enough!)

I admit, I am one of those people that find it gross... but if I hear someone blowing their nose I tune out (not hard to do when you are "working"). I would certainly not tell anyone or expect anyone to move away while they do it. (If someone asked me to blow my nose elsewhere I'd tell them where to go... and say something like... I'll tell you when I want to blow and YOU can go to the restroom until I have finished.... they can have their work suffer, not mine!!!)

Just keep a bottle of bacteria gel (That you can wash your hands with no water) and maybe some bacterial wipes, that way if someone says something.... give them a squirt... lol... it is hygenic for yourself and then really there is nothing to complain about... plus it will stop the "germs" getting back to you from your keyboard etc.

I agree with the the person who said keep the hand sanitzer on your desk for that occasion.Myself I wouldn't find the blowing of the nose offensive at your desk, I hate people who blow their nose while dining, now thats offensive to everyone!Just as a personal thing, I don't like blowing my nose in public and would prefer to do it in a restroom, but sometimes circumsatnces make this impossible....its always best to be considerate of others who share your space though.Bless you!

Don't get up and use the bathroom every time because that will bother people even more. Feel free to blow your nose at your desk. Just don't blow too hard or you will sneeze. Also, make sure you have some hand sanitizer handy because you will need it.

Sometimes a little hint can help...

A few years back we had a lady in the office who constantly coughed and blew her nose, one morning she came in and found a box of tissues and bag of cough drops on her desk. She took the hint and used the cough drops and went to the ladies room to blow her nose.

We had a guy who farted in his cubicle all the time, so one morning I put a can of lysol on his desk; and after that he went to the mens room when he had to let out gas.

There was also a time when I was 22, working my first job, my boss had horrible bad breath. It was disgusting. One morning, I went into the office earlier, and went and put a bottle of listerine on his desk. Two weeks later the company had a layoff and I was the only one from our department that was let go. I often thought it had to do with the listerine I left on his desk. But, it worked out because I got a better job.

Yes, it is both inappropriate and gross. I would and do get up and go to the rest room. Yes, everyone has to blow their nose from time to time, yes it is a natural body function. However, all things are not meant to be shared. Lack of manners and self respect... I would think that they would need and desire to wash their hands after blowing their nose, so they would need to get up anyway.... God bless****

No blow at the desk, just use a hankie or some other piece of material to collect the snot, if you have any class you'll have a hankie for the ladies,/handkerchief for the men.
Use of this method is best, wiping your nose on your sleave went out with green sleaves....

If you have a cold, getting up to go to the restroom or somewhere else everytime to blow your nose may really piss off your boss.
I think it is okay to do it at your desk... who cares what others think.

well personally, i think it is bothersome, i certainly dont want to hear someone blowing their nose constantly.... if they are that sick, they should go home, they are blowing their nose leaving their soiled snot rags around possibly, touching everything from phones, to the copy machine to pens, and spreading germs..... no it is not ok to blow your nose at your desk...... it really is offensive to people.

It's ok to do it at your desk. It's a cold. People understand that. If it were some kind of chronic sinus thing, it could get annoying,

But, use tissues and dispoe of them properly, or a handkerchief--not your sleeve.
