Is compassion, empathy and caring good character traits? Or do you find that not caring about anyone staves off disappointment and suits you better?

They are definitely good character traits and I want to be around people who have these, as well as be this way myself. Even if we are sometimes disappointed in others, the majority of people I know are good and I wouldn't want to miss the postive experiences I've had in life.

Of course they're good character traits.

But you must admit, people don't come by these traits without a caring and compassionate heart.

It's a must have.

Disappointment is a part of this life, we all have it, but we go on, as does life.

Those are all very good traits in my eyes. I once asked my husband to help a sales person in a store translate for another customer and he just shook his head no and walked away. I know very little spanish so I luckily I understood her and helped her. I later told him that I hope my son and I were never in a position where we were somewhere that we didn't speak the language and we needed help from an honest person.

Compassion and caring are very important traits. They are what make us better than the animals. Without preaching, I would like to say that we are indeed or brother's keeper.

Apparently I dont have the power to stop being compassionate. I have a lot of trouble passing someone in the street that seems to be in some distress. I take homeless people out to eat and take them to the gym to shower and get a change of clothes. I started working with exceptional children in the 70's and get so much out of it. People would ask how I could work with these children and I'd tell them I got so much love from them, it humbled me. If I was ever disappointed, that was my fault, not theirs.

Yes, it is good traits to have remembering that what you reap is what you sow then it is much comforting that you'll be receiving it when you're a little old. Anyway if it didn't happen you're heart is still blooming with all the kindness you have given.

Oh my, what ever has caused you to lose hope? Of course, kindness and love is what is so important. The world is such a beautiful place.
Think of how you would want other people to act towards you, the kind of friend you would want to have, the stranger you would wnat to meet on the street- and then be that person. It is not always easy, and it is often not fun, but to quote Ghandi, "Be the change you want to see in the world."

Love everyone.

Compassion, empathy and caring are wonderful traits.
There are those who have become uncaring, due to disappointments. I don't think that they choose to be that way, maybe just afraid to let their guard down.

They are wonderful, warm, human traits and if more people had them it could be a different world. Certainly there are loving, caring people who have been hurt, but to avoid hurt is to avoid life. It's the same with love - sure, you risk your heart getting bruised and broken, but it IS better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all.
