What human being on the face of the earth grows up and never questions what they were taught - especially by their parents?

Personally, I think the actions we model for our children are much harder for them to break free of than any ideas which we give them. What do you think?

Is there a penalty built in (say, eternal damnation) for unbelievers? Do you actively try to convert others? Is it mandatory?

Would you like everyone in the world to hold the same beliefs?

Does that irk you as much as it does me?

It "burns my biscuits"...

How can you say that the Bible is God's words when the story of Noah's ark was derived from the Epic of Gligamesh. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the Epic of Gilgamesh tells of a story about a great king, and how the Earth came about. In it, tells the exact story of Noah's Ark, with a different name. (this includes the flood, the boat, the animals, e.t.c) The Epic of Gilgamesh was written/made during the pre-historic Mesopotamia era, when polytheism was still around. ...this was WAAAY before Christianity....or even Jeduaism..

So what gives?

"What is the greatest thing about your religion that you truly and proudly treasure?" I answered Ephesians 2:2-17 =it's the grace of God that we are saved through faith. I also listed John 3:16- God loved the world so much He gave us Jesus and believing in Jesus we'd be forgiven (have eternal life=Heaven.) I listed Psalm 23, showing that God will lead us through life, aiding us through difficult times and to eternal life in Heaven. We are not to fear the problems of life- God is with us and will deliver us from damnation. Now, Some gave this answer a thumbs down response. Does that mean that I, me, myself don't treasure these things? I SAID that they ARE the things that I treasure.- Are they saying "No you don't" They would be answering for me! Does that mean they know what MY RELIGION teaches and I'm telling a lie? Does that mean they don't think things like, love, aid forgiveness,Gods grace, deliverance, salvation,Heaven, are NOT important? Love for us is a poor quality?? WOW.

There are two women in the church choir I direct, and one of them is always so negative (not just about me, but everything) and the other one is frequently disrespectful to me, undermining my authority and also is extremely resistant to change. Tonight, the second one actually yelled at me and had a fit at the end of choir rehearsal.

How do you handle choir members such as these (believe me when I say, I PRAY you don't actually have any like them in your choir).

I was Baptised at 13 and i knew exactly what i was doing...

I am pregant, 7 weeks. I was just thinking that I want to raise my child to be a pagan like me. I won't let superstitious beliefs like from the bible corrupt and scare my baby. I was wondering if there were any other pagan parents out there that could give me some tips on it. I'm an eclectic kitchen witch and my husband is an Odinist. Any tips on how to make this work?

Can someone please explain why some christians ask questions about whether LDS are christians or not and then choose the answer they had allready picked out in there own minds before they asked the question instead of looking at the logical answers given and then choosing the one that makes sense?

I'm not quite sure where to begin this, but for some time now I've wanted to go to a country to help out some children who are not so fortunate. Maybe adopt (but NOT literally adopt) a child and buy them presents every year, etc, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions or know where to begin? I was thinking about WorldVision.org but I haven't heard such good things about them and I want the ability to visit the child I am donating to.

"Considering that human consciousness, including reason, conscience, etc, are well explained by evolution and neurology without needing a deity, I see no reason to invoke the deific hypothesis"

you wrote this on another of my questions. please provide me with a link that contains conclusive evidence and not pure speculation. nothing has interested me more in neurophysiology and i did a senior thesis paper on the evolution of intelligence. even if it could be explained by natural selection (which it cannot, at the present), would you be able to explain the driving force behind the mechanism? i can't. evolution is an amazing and elegant process, but once again, i have to point out that science explains the "how" and not the "why" of it. and you could cop out and say that the "why" is to propagate one's species, but you and i both know that isn't what i mean.

Its happened to me all of 3 times in my entire adult life. It took me all of 5 minutes to get to the door, listen to what they have to offer and then say no thank you.

Some people in here act like people are banging down their doors every day and I just dont buy it.

Lets say people came knocking even just once a month, which is probably way way more then it happens to most, is that few minutes once a month a good reason to dislike a group of people or get annoyed?

Have we become a society so full of ourselves that we freak out over having to pull ourselves away for a few minutes if someone knocks on our door with an offer we dont want?

College age lower income kids trying to sell magazines to make money for a trip or school have knocked on my door the most and sometimes at the most inconvenient times and I dont let it get me angry. It is just not that big of a deal and I dont think my time is so precious that I cant be courteous for a couple of minute. Who cares?

Has anybody actually been swayed by the arguments (such as they are) for or against religion here on Yahoo! Answers?

Did you start out as a Christian and realize (through exposure to ridicule) the folly of your childhood beliefs? Have you been a lifelong atheist until you received (through divine revelation) the gift of the love of Jesus? Have you come to embrace Allah, or to know Buddha, or Joseph Smith, or L. Ron Hubbard (or Thor ... or anyone)?

or is this all just pointless, jovial inter-faith bickering?

and don't you just love it! either way?
