Almost as much as when you give a great answer then the asker just goes and deletes the question.

Yeah, the second one totally irks me, especially if I KNOW I gave a correct answer.
The first one has happened a couple times...it only irked me when I typed up a thorough answer, and the asker chose a one-liner that just agreed with their views.
I still haven't quit wasting my time answering those who disagree with me, though. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

It is your own opinion that your answer is the best, but in may not be the opinion of the asker or the voters. One time I gave a factual answer to a question, supported by cites, and the asker picked one which was totally false, but it was the best answer in the opinion of the asker because it supported the asker's opinion.
In other words, just because YOU think it is the best answer doesn't mean it is the best answer.
