Its happened to me all of 3 times in my entire adult life. It took me all of 5 minutes to get to the door, listen to what they have to offer and then say no thank you.
Some people in here act like people are banging down their doors every day and I just dont buy it.
Lets say people came knocking even just once a month, which is probably way way more then it happens to most, is that few minutes once a month a good reason to dislike a group of people or get annoyed?
Have we become a society so full of ourselves that we freak out over having to pull ourselves away for a few minutes if someone knocks on our door with an offer we dont want?
College age lower income kids trying to sell magazines to make money for a trip or school have knocked on my door the most and sometimes at the most inconvenient times and I dont let it get me angry. It is just not that big of a deal and I dont think my time is so precious that I cant be courteous for a couple of minute. Who cares?

I will have to agree with you there that people are totally allowed to be cranky if forced to open the door at 8 am on a saturday! (unless it is a cop because it wouldnt be wise to ever be cranky to a cop)

I live in southern ca (orange county) which actually has a very large JW and mormon population, but not a lot of fundies that try to push their beliefs. I didnt even realize fundamentalists went door to door. The 3 times have been JW's.

I always feel bad about saying no to the magazing people because they always have a really good cause they are claiming to sell the magazines for, but btwn all the nieces, nephews and cousins selling magazines, girl scout cookies, wrapping paper and way overpriced mixed nuts, I just dont have anymore money left.

I lived here for five years and in those five years I have had 3 visits from Mormons 2 Jehovah witness and 5 protestants. I don't mind most of the time but 8:00 on a Saturday morning is to early unless you do mind me answering the door in my tight white square undies.

You have a totally excellent point. I kind of wish someone would come knocking on my door, just for the experience. Once, about 5 or 6 years ago when I was LDS/Mormon, my friend who had just recently gotten baptized LDS/Mormon and I were hanging out at my place watching a movie. Next thing I know, some Jehovah's Witness were knocking on my door. I didn't want to answer, but he was all fired up about "the gospel" so he answered the door. They got into an argument about the way the Bible is written or something, it bore me to tears, and one of the other Witnesses was bored too, so we went into the living room and finished the movie while our friends argued out the preponderances of the Bible.

I don't get mad at the people trying to sell things, because I understand their motives. I don't even try to understand the lunacy that would make someone think, "Hey, maybe it would be a good idea to knock on a stranger's door and indoctrinate them with my beliefs about a magical being who created the universe and has specific rules about how humans should live."
I don't know what part of the country you are in, but the Jesus freaks probably come around once every two months or so where I live. As far as I'm concerned, if they only came once in my lifetime, it would be once too much. I care, and I wish people would knock that crap off.

In my adult life? Twice: Once by Mormons and once by Assembly of God. When I was living in Oklahoma, a Baptist church member dropped off a welcome packet, but didn't knock on the door or anything. That was the only time I was visited there, which is ironic, being the Bible belt and all.
The Mormon and AOG visits were both in Washington State.
The Mormons were very nice, and even gave me a Book of Mormon. We discussed it (they visited twice, the second was at my request), I declined, they never visited again.
The AOG people and I debated scripture that they felt supported their views (they were of the type that believed women should always wear long skirts and never cut their hair), I made them feel stupid, and they never returned. And I wasn't a Christian at the time.
Since I've been here in Germany, no one from any church has visited (except for a lady that brought us cookies after my first visit to her church), but we DO get people from the furniture company stopping by every couple months or so, ever since we bought a couch from them.
I don't think it's a big deal either...and no one has ever visited me earlier than 10 a.m.

I get someone knocking on my door at least every few months. I haven't had any JW's at my current residence, but plenty of Mormon's and even a Baptist church. Usually, as far as I know, fundamental churches are only trying to invite you to church, not convert you at the door.
My last church went door to door to invite and invite only. An invitation is important for many reasons, but I don't think it can ONLY be done by going door to door.
I personally despise people knocking on my door because I'm so afraid it's going to be another magazine salesman (I get those at least every 2-3 months!) that I've got to say no to about 5 times before they'll finally leave my door.
In fact, one time this young girl came to my door selling mags and the first thing she says is,
"Hi! We're looking for some cool people in this neighborhood..."
and then she went on with her sales pitch. Well, once I told her I wasn't interested she quickly lost her smile and asked me,
"Well, do you know where any COOL people might be?"
:-P

It has to do with the product being sold, the attitude of the seller, and persistence. It is not about courtesy. I feel violated when someone insults me by presuming my status of salvation based on their own belief system. If it were a question of courtesy, they would first enquire whether or not I was in the market for a new product of their type, or if I even had need of such. Even vacuum cleaner sales people make an appointment and don't come if you aren't interested. A student selling as a fund raiser is an entirely different question.

If merely Mormons and JWs try this then they have nefariously pretended to be, at fairly some situations, Lutherans, Baptists, nondenominational charismatics, Pentecostalists, Nazarenes and Episcopalians, for the reason that all of those have knocked on my door and tried to threaten me with hell to get me to bypass to their church. EDIT on your upload. a prior answerer initially pronounced that merely JWs and Mormons try this, then the two deleted or edited their reaction when I published. that's a hassle-unfastened declare that Xians make besides. selection? i don't shop a diary and that i pass lots so annoying to declare with precision yet i could guess in line with probability 3-4 situations a 365 days for the 15 years i've got had my very very own place. upload a number of greater situations in line with annum for literature being dropped off by using fact we weren't residing house - failed tries to bypass door to door for sure. added EDIT - look down some posts to Frog E's - back this may well be a hassle-unfastened repeated declare that the practice is merely completed by ability of cultish denominations not "authentic" Christians. that's organic bullcrap and greater No authentic Soctsman fallacy peddling. i will truthfully concede that those adult adult males do it greater frequently, yet heck the undeniable fact that adult adult males homicide greater frequently than women people would not recommend Susan Smith became harmless.

very good point! I think perhaps here it is more like once a year, and not every year at that, as you say, no big deal!
Actually the last lot of Jehovas Witnesses (they are the only ones we ever get) ended asking me about MY beliefs (pagan) before saying thank you for an interesting chat and leaving. They haven't been back though lol

Wow, you're lucky. I've lived in some areas where there were LOTS of fundies who came by on a pretty regular basis. I couldn't honestly count the number of times that someone has come to my door in my lifetime, but it's definitely several dozen, if not more. And of course, that doesn't count the ones who drop by when I'm NOT home and leave their litter... er... that is... religious literature on my door.
