It's not a crime to change religions as everyone has the freedom to make their own choices. They also have the freedom to live with the consequences of their choices, which is why I keep them in my prayers that they remain in Christ.

God bless.

Pastor Billy says: all of the previous answers have not clearly answered your question in fact they have misrepresent it terribly.

The short answer is if the person leaving the faith understands what they are giving up they are entering spiritual death.

If you are asking whether it is a civil crime to leave the Christian faith with punishment of imprisonment or torture the answer is no.

When your sister married as a Muslim to her Catholic husband her new husband was making a vow or promise to raise all children in the marriage as Catholic and your sister was also agreeing to not prevent this. You've indictated in another question your new brother in-law will be converting to islam and therefore in the eyes of the Christian community both him and your sister have lied to have this wedding proceed in front of witnesses. The children of the marriage are to be raised as Catholics

According to Pope Benedict XVI you have left the "Church" and are unable to be saved, unless you go Eastern Orthodox, then you are just "wounded" for not believing in the Pope.

i myself is a roman catholic and i don't heard anything such that co-catholics who had changed into other religions have punishments.

all this i can say - they don't have enough faith in God and let them God be the one to punish them after death.

lastly, to all my co-roman catholics, have more faith in God & don't forget to call him. PEACE BE WITH YOU :-)

The punishment is that you associate with another set of weak minded people who can't think for themselves.
