Falco yours is a sensible answer.I believe people like you would keep 'Christian' regimes in check but you have to concede that Christianity is the cornerstone of western civilization and when it is going astern Christians will wrestle and put it back where it should be.

Steven N, I suggest you do some serious research yourself;at the core of western civilization is Christianity take it away and you might get a Soviet union or an Iran.

Kilmede you are a bigot and not worthy of debate;you make comments and when questioned are unable to answer .You make comments without backing them up.
Take a look at Falco five blocks above you ,an atheist but whit much elegance and grace.Him,I would lash out with regret.I would put him in the' Lee Stobel' category and you in the 'Voltaire'.

Hmm...I'm trying not to have a knee-jerk atheist reaction here. Alright, let's look at this question. Firstly, it's a very broad generalisation - and if your premise is that BY THE NATURE of being atheists or Muslims we all inherently hate Western civilisation, then you're on a highway to nowhere because it's too broad a statement to be substantiated, and one factual example - of which you've now had many (people saying I'm an atheist and I don't hate Western Civilisation) - destroys the premise.
If you're asking what reasons there would be for atheists and Muslims to hate "Western civilisation" then it gets complicated. First, another line needs to be drawn - Muslims, per se, don't hate the West. Many millions of them live and work and fight to defend Western nations. Extremist Muslims are another story, and they're as separate from the vast majority of Muslim people as the Christians who kill abortion doctors are from the mainstream of Christian faith.
Turning then to the question - what's to hate in Western civilisation. There are two main elements here - an ancient histtorical and a recent historical one. First up, in the ancient history section, people have long memories, and while you're right that in a sense, Christianity was woven into the very fibre of the development of Western civilisation, it also misused its power dreadfully once it had achieved it - so you had situations where non-believers were burned as heretics at home, and Muslims were attacked and slaughtered for being Muslims in things like the Crusades.
That was a big warning to everybody that the Christian faith is great on a personal level, but it shouldn't be allowed to play with matches.
Secondly, in more recent history, the idea of Western civilisation has since the end of the Second World War been shaped by America and the idea of freedom. This is beautiful and laudable, but again is an idea that shouldn't be given to people with no sense of irony - as some that are big and powerful don't.
So you get the "cultural imperialism" that is today's Western civilisation - the unending march of Ronald McDonald and, a decade ago, the unending march of the armies of Bush V1.0 into territories where they had no damn business if not to spread "freedom" and "Western civilisation". Speaking personally as an atheist, I'm not terribly keen on what "Western civilisation" has come to mean in the 21st century, with its principles of enlightenment and fellowship degraded into tissue-thin justifications for looting and pillaging. And we're not even the ones who have suffered in the process. Many Muslims in the Middle East have seen their homes, their families, their communities destroyed by the armies of "Western civilisation". Many Muslims in Western nations have seen themselves become stigmatised, viewed with suspicion, in response to the actions of a group of extremists over whom they have no control.
I don't honestly think it's a religious thing any more - I don't think anybody can be bothered to hate Christianity per se. But the idea of "Western civilisation" has been degraded to a point where it sounds hollow and has become despicable een to those who live in the Western world.

How do you mean? Atheism is the cornerstone of Western Civilisation, Christianity is what opposes the very ideals of it.
1) The church controls people. Atheists like freedom.
2) The church discourage research. Atheists aren't afraid to speak out and find new discoveries.
3) America's founding fathers based it on separation from church and state.
There's still loads of reasons but in all likely hood you won't have read this. You'll probably do the Christian thing and just ignore evidence and say I'm ungodly. God-warrior right ¬_¬.

Not just naive but ignorant!!!
Atheists simply do not believe in a god - any god -not just yours. Therefore whatever nationality or country in the world a person is who does not believe in a god they are atheist. They can follow any religion or spiritual belief they want that does not have a god.
Since most non Western countries are deeply religious in the other religions rather than Christianity the West probably has far more atheists!
You are amply demonstrating that American Christians are trying to undemocratically usurp democracy in America and impose dictatorship by Christians.
I would think that most Atheist and Muslims actually pity christians on here for their ignorance and egotism!!!!

Atheists have no quarrel with any sector of the globe, western or otherwise. They have a quarrel with the existence of all deitic beings, not just christianity. They believe in God and the Holy Spirit as much they believe in Allah, Zeus and the Great A'tuin.
Someone with a diligent hatred of western civilisation is an anthropological racist, not an atheist. They're also rather stupid to boot.
I would seriously suggest you research these topics a little more before hammering out absurd generalisations like that.

I don't think that all atheists hate Western Civilisation but in their hearts they can never be certain that there ideas are correct.
Islamicsts are a younger religion than those in the Western Civilisations. There ideas of the more extreme are that no one else should have any other religion, in some cases the death penalty is involved, They scream for equal opportunities in the UK but class their womenfolk as second class citizens who aren't even permitted to join them in prayer. In some countries women are not allowed to drive cars

Well, we can't hate something that's not there, can we ;-) However, on a more serious note, we don't. What he hate is the corruption of reason that religion causes. We hate the death and destruction that religion brings to the world. We hate the twisted things people do to others and themselves in the name of a God that they say commands them to do it. We don't hate God because we don't believe him. We hate the effects of God upon the world because very few of them are good and the ones that are can be accomplished without Him. Become a secular humanist. You will still lead a happy life and won't have all the baggage that religion brings to the table. -S-

Yeah, I hate Western Civilisation. What's not to hate about a society that indoctrinates children into becoming adults such as yourself (assuming you are an adult, hard to tell by the quality of your argument), spewing hate mongering shite at anyone who doesn't believe exactly as you do, including others of the same religion, just a different sect, using your time here on earth to spread mistrust of all that is different to your white, middleclass, suburbian existence.
Steps down from soapbox.
You can't really believe the rubbish you just typed can you? If you do, then as you would say, "God help you", because your beyond human intervention.

Goodlychristian, you must know henny penny and ducky lucky. lol Satan's work? You are demented. You have everything wrong. Just like this question. Truth is, we make you think and that scares the hell out of you. You fear what you don't understand. Satan is not an Atheist. Even if he was real, how could he be an Atheist and not cancel himself out? I don't hate America. I don't like our foreign policies and the ones at home leave a lot to be desired, too. I can't wait for the day you guys find out that our president, Bush, is actually a Satanist. And, you support him with all you have. Good grief!
