We never give out candy, because we are always out trick or treating with our own kids. By the time we get home, it is usually about 9, and most kids in our area aren't trick or treating anymore. However, in the past we have had kids show up knocking on our door after we have gotten home, even though we have our porch light off. Isn't that the universal symbol that a house isn't giving out candy? It was when I was a kid. If the porch light wasn't on, you didn't go to that house, but it doesn't seem to stop kids. It may sound mean, but that late at night, I don't want to be bothered with trick or treaters, and the only candy we have is what my kids just got. Can we post a sign on our door telling people that we are not giving out candy or is that rude?
