i don't mean to sound stereotypical but in my local NYC Roman Catholic parish, the Italian mafia were the ones who gave most of the $ to keep the parish and school running. They also gave a lot of money to support fundraisers. Even when well known mobsters have passed on they had their huge funerals in the church.

Why does the church, at least the ones where I'm from have such deep roots in the Church where I can say that these people did not leave religious lives? Is it part of the Italian culture thing, you know majority of Italians are Roman Catholics or was it part of their "cover jobs", similar to Al Capone operating soup kitchens to prove that they are legit, honorable people?

How do you know that you are saved? Did you go to the gates of heaven and take a sneak peak at what Peter has in his book awaiting at the gates of heaven? There is no one on this planet that can truthfull claim they have been saved, one can proclaim that they have re-given there hearts, mind, body, and soul back to GOD, but how do you know you are forgiven for all of your sins?

is always a reference to the Abrahamic deity. The practice of capitalizing the g began with bishop Ulfilas' (cir. 310-383 CE) Gothic translation of the New Testament, and was later attached to the Abrahamic deity in general (inlcuding capitalizing the first a in Allah). It is a name, but of a type of being, not a proper name to be avoided, as in "do not use the name of the Lord in vain". How many of you use the term this way in your questions and answers?

I mean, it's pretty obvious from looking at the fossil record (or reading a textbook on biology) that humans didn't evolve from monkeys.

Are creationists using "monkeys" as a blanket term for all non-human primates, or do they think that evolution claims that we evolved from the same monkeys we see swinging from tree branches today?

I'd prefer answers from creationists so that I can know what you actually believe.

Last week or so I asked a question for a term paper for my religions class and chose a topic. I am going to compare Christianity, Satanism and Buddhaism and their views on suicide. I would like to chat with a Satanist and get their view. Feel free to email me from my profile.

Let me clarify that I am not a Satanist or looking to convert, I just need to do some research and feel it would be a waste to spend money on the Satanic Bible for just one paper. I looked up some past questions and I am prepared for the bashing that I will recieve.

I am fairly new to this site and I have noticed that anytime someone posts a question saying that "we could not of come from monkeys" or posting a form of Pascals Wager, some people answer with "Drink". Is this a form of drinking game? And Ive been sober for over 12 years, so how do I play?

And the Lord saith unto Noah, "Where is the ark which I commanded thee to build?"

Noah replied, "Behold, when I journeyed to the Jordan County Planning and Zoning office for a permit, verily they railed against me and said, "Thy property art not zoned for an ark thirty cubits high. Thou wouldst require a 1040 review, environmental impact studies and a public hearing for a variance..."

And the Lord saith, "Noah, faithful servant, do thy best...I shall take care of you. But I needeth the ark completed in two fortnights. Do not fail!"

Noah answered and said, "It shall be so."

But it wast not so. And the Lord saith, "Noah, wherefore is the ark, my schedule doth call for the ark to be completed before Christmas?"

And Noah answered, "Christmas? What's Christmas?"

"In by Christmastime! It's just an expression used in the building trade. It doesn't mean a thing."

And Noah answered, "Verily, it shall be done."

"They proved to me by convincing reasons that God does not exist; Afterwards I saw
God, for He came and embraced me. And now what am I to believe- the reasoning of others or my own experience?
Truth is what the soul has seen and experienced; the rest is appearance, prejudice and opinion."
