is always a reference to the Abrahamic deity. The practice of capitalizing the g began with bishop Ulfilas' (cir. 310-383 CE) Gothic translation of the New Testament, and was later attached to the Abrahamic deity in general (inlcuding capitalizing the first a in Allah). It is a name, but of a type of being, not a proper name to be avoided, as in "do not use the name of the Lord in vain". How many of you use the term this way in your questions and answers?

I usually try to use "Yahweh" or to specify that I mean "the Judeo-Christian deity" when I ask about "God".

God is a title, not HIS name.
Exd 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
Not many really know what GOD's name is. And i don't mean in cussing.
So what is it to use GOD's name in vain? Its to call yourself a Christian and then teach falsely, thus polluting HIS name.
Mar 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
You shall not lift HIS name in falsehood, vanity, or worthless conduct.

I capitalize whenever I refer to the 'Abrahamic Deity.' God, I Am, Jehovah, He, Him, His, etc. It's just my method of respect.

God is called God because the people of Isrial decided to never speak the name of God for fear of misusing it.

god = title
God = name
just like president, or teacher, god is a term that denotes authority and power.
where as the christian term "God" is used as his name.
