A lot of people seem to have trouble distinguishing between the three.

Well, it's kinda like the difference between an electric blender, a kiwi fruit, and a hedgehog. People are easily confused by similar sounding words, but one has nothing to do with the other. You're right, though, a lot of people get these things mixed up.

Science is a method of inquiry, of asking questions, forming an educated guess at an answer based on observation (a hypothesis), testing that hypothesis through a controlled experiment, and then putting the results up to peer review. It all centers around verified observation, and so is limited to those things which can be observed. Science is the best method for understanding the natural world, a bit fuzzy on the mind, and entirely useless in Spiritual matters.

Christian Science is a Christian offshoot which believes in prayer and faith healing in place of modern medicine. It was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the 1860's. They believe that creation is entirely good and spiritual, that sickness and death are illusions of the mind brought about by ignorance, fear, and sin, and that for this reason prayer is an effective means of healing. So philosophically, they seem to have more in common with New Age than they do with Fundamentalist Christianity.

Scientology is a religion that was founded by a science-fiction writer, L. Ron Hubbard, in 1952. I don't know much about them, but their doctrines seem to be a mix of psychology, Eastern religion, and Science Fiction. Their basic teachings in the earlier degrees seem pretty rational -- that human beings are basically good, that we are immortal spirits in possession of a body and a mind, and that we must free ourselves of traumatic past events to come closer to functioning in harmony with this higher spiritual self. Not all that different from Aleister Crowley's Thelema, which was one if Hubbard's influences. In the higher degrees, however, it gets weird. They supposedly teach that human beings are plagued by the souls of aliens who were blown up by the evil Galactic Overlord Xenu.

So, as you can see, Science, Christian Science, and Scientology are three entirely different things. They have little or nothing to do with each other, other than the superficial linguistic similarities in the names.

Science- Figuring out life's mysteries by experimentation and trying to disprove already proved laws and theories.

Christian Science- Trying to PROVE theories that point to the existence of their God, as well as refuting without experimentation of anything against their "science."

Scientology- A religion founded by a science fiction writer who believes that and evil intergalactic over lord named Xenu caused all the bad things to happen to humans. (in a nutshell)

Hope this helps! ^_^

People who confuse the difference are the intellectually dishonest theists who enjoy confusion to hide the bankruptcy of their arguments.

Out of the three, science is the most precious thing humanity possesses, while the other two are absolutely worthless, even damaging.

LOL.

Science - "organized common sense" (Huxley.)

Christian Science - nutty religion that pretends that "bad stuff" is just an illusion, so if you get sick, you shouldn't seek medical attention, etc.

Scientology - nutty religion that makes celebrities fat (Kirstie Alley, John Travolta, etc).
