According to the Bible it says

God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away.
And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for the splendor and radiance (glory) of God illuminate it, and the Lamb is its lamp
The nations shall walk by its light and the rulers and leaders of the earth shall bring into it their glory.
And its gates shall never be closed by day, and there shall be no night there
They shall bring the glory (the splendor and majesty) and the honor of the nations into it.
But nothing that defiles or profanes or is [d]unwashed shall ever enter it, nor anyone who commits abominations (unclean, detestable, morally repugnant things) or practices falsehood, but only those whose names are recorded in the Lamb's Book of Life.

Did they believe they would go to heaven? If so, was their understanding of heaven the same as the Christian view (yes, I know there were no Christians in OT times)?
For example, when David says in Psalm 23, "I will dwell in the house of the Lord," or in Proverbs 23:18, when Solomon says, "There is a future hope for you," what does this mean?
Thanks.

Simply because if you suppose creationism is correct, you are saying that the forming of life is a mystery not only to man but to God, and regardless of all the complex intricacies of Gods universe, God was unable to find a logical way to create life, instead he used magic, and everything simply appeared.

It would be offensive to God to quickly assume God is unable to manage something greater than our limited human understanding.

My tenant is a military doctor renting our apartment and has been great. We don't have a lot of money but any suggestions on something little I can give him? Should I just give him some food (my mom is Korean so I was thinking of giving him some Korean food during the Christmas holidays) - I don't want to give him fruit cake or anything.

The most preposterous notion that H. Sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all of history.

thanks in advance for any answers-smile and enjoy the day

Why would you follow in a religion that damns billions of people to infinite torture and doesn't give them a second chance?

That seems so freaking rude.

Says something about what kind of person you are - a jerk.

You're all bad people. >:^(

Its funny how most people accept this idea of a "soul". Its religion's way of fortifying the fiction of heaven, after all, heaven is an etherial place where we dont bring our jewlery or penis (unless your muslim, then you are bringing the family jewels, to mate with all the virgins from the virgin-ho-house).

So, why do you believe in a "soul"...have you ever thought about whether or not you have a rational basis for this religious concept? Where is this puppy located? The heart just pumps blood right? The brain controls everything, and its the place where thinking occurs, but what about those functions makes it a certain place for a "soul"?

I think Muslims get bashed entirely too much. Jehovah's Witnesses and LDS members get mistreated as well. If you're curious, I am a Christian of no specific denomination who believes in all 7 Sacraments and Apostolic Succession -- thus "my" (God's, actually) Church encompasses the Roman Catholic Church, Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, "Old Catholics," etc. Of the "parts" of this Church, the Roman Catholics seem to put up with the most hostility here.

This is a question, but it's also a request for us to treat one another with more respect. There's no excuse for being less than civil with one another.

Statistically, atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points, according to a new study by the Danish professor of developmental psychology, Helmuth Nyborg. The study was conducted at Aarhus University using data from more than 7000 subjects

*yes of course there are many smart christians and many dumb atheists, but a survey is about the average isnt it.
*yes there are other surveys that confirm this.
*5.8 IQ points over a survey of 7000 is definately statically significant.
*no, im not lying

My explanation is that people with a higher IQ are more likely to do further education after school. As they become more educated they learn how to think and become aware of what religion really is. The sort of person who wants to learn is also the sort of person who asks questions...... and will question the logic of religion.
And also of course someone with a lower IQ is more suseptable to believing something so flawed

(you now with all the crazy fanatical talk included) and then later altered the voice pattern so it sounded like someone else, then dubbed in the name of a rival god everytime they mentioned the word "God"... and way later on played it back to them... would they LAUGH at how absolutely ridiculous and pathetic it sounds to them?

How wrong I was! I have just scoured loads of categories (I am on hols after all) to try and be helpful and informative and I cannot come up with anything halfway useful to say! Am I just having a 'Senior Moment' or am I as useless and brain dead as I feel?

I mean if you have enough faith that something good will happen, then it probably will, partially or completely, depending of circumstances. But as having faith doesn`t bring positive results everytime, its resutls are pretty similar with the results of auto-suggestion, so do they work on the same principle?
