Candy cigarettes...can still be bought at Cheryl's Market 2 blocks up the street from me.

Plastic Army Men...my brother and I used to shoot them with his BB gun. My kids have played with them, also.

Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside..and wax lips! Can't forget them.

Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles...We owned a corner market when I was young. The bottle opener was mounted on the side of the machine, for easy opening.. My father still has the Coke machine, and other memorabilia.

Coffee shops with table side jukeboxes....the local truckstop has them to this day, along with table side telephones.

Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum...Teaberry was my favorite. You can still find it at the Comet market.

Home milk delivery in glass bottles with cardboard stoppers...on really cold days, the cream would freeze and form a plug which pushed the bottle cap off.

Telephone numbers with a word prefix...(Raymond 4-601). Yes, I remember these, but I forget what ours was.

Party lines...up until a few years ago, my sister in Cadogan was still on a party line!

Howdy Dowdy...before my time.

45 RPM records...and battery-operated portable players to go with them!

45 rpm spindles...the tall black plastic ones? Or the little yellow ones that snapped in?

Green Stamps...I still have the doll and high chair that I received for my 5th Christmas thanks to the folks at S&H.

Metal ice cubes trays with levers...which froze to your fingers if you weren't careful!

Roller-skate keys....mine is in my jewelry box.

Cork pop guns....still made today! My kids have played with them.

Marlin Perkins....Host of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom.

Drive in Movies...We had 2 in our town..the 66, and The Chief. Today, we still have the Moonlight Drive-in.

Drive in restaurants...The Cadet, still in operation.

Car Hops...my sister Deb, employed by the Cadet!

Washtub wringers...Nellie Busey had one in her basement, but it was just a curiosity by the time I came along.

Reel-To-Reel tape recorders...Oh, how these frustrated me as a child!

Tinkertoys
Erector Sets
Lincoln Logs.....just last week, when ceaning out my garage, I donated all three of these to Goodwill.

Penny candy...and the tiny paper bags to carry your purchases in. I always bought the little flying saucers with candy pellets inside. Along with wax pop bottles, and wax lips.

Jiffy Pop popcorn...my kids and I still make it on occasion.

Gum wrapper chains...Yes! And daisy chains, too.

Speedy Alka-Seltzer...plop, plop, fizz, fizz...

Thanks, Eileen, for the memories.

(((((((ELJ)))))))

EDIT:

Burma Shave signs...We entertained ourselves on long drives by reading the Burma Shave signs. I haven't seen any since we took a camping trip to Kentucky, many years ago.

Flash bulbs...my favorite picture of my sister Deb is when I caught *her* taking a pic of my sister Kate, and the flashbulb popped off her camera! It was hilarious.

TV Test patterns...Yes, and I even remember the days of only 3 stations (ABC, NBC, CBS), and how each night they'd sign off by playing the national anthem. Then it was nothing but test patterns until morning.

Old Yeller...my son's reading it now, for a book report.

Chef Boy-ar-dee...I liked the mini ravioli's best.

Timmy and Lassie...I always wanted June Lockhart for a mother. (....with Hugh Beaumont as Timmy, and of course, Lassie...).

Ding Dong Avon calling!!...Twenty years ago, I was an Avon Lady.

Brylcreem...my father used it to slick back his hair.

Aluminum Christmas Trees...my grandmother had one, silver, about 4 feet tall.

Since you did go back and work the horse in the way he was accustomed to after the incident, you should be fine. If the bad incident was the last thing that happened that day, then yes he may remember it and you might have some trust issues. Just go back to doing what you were doing before that worked with him, he will let you know if things aren't right. Whips have a purpose, and that is an extension of your arm, basically a communication tool. Any tool used improperly can cause harm and hinder what you are actually working to accomplish. If someone tells you to do something that you feel is not right, the best thing is to not do it and ask someone who you trust. Some horse people are always willing to give advice whether wanted or not, and the biggest sign of who to avoid is anyone who just blurts out the advice without asking if you are having problems or wanting to know more about the situation. Anyway, you and the horse should be fine, just make sure to use the saddle he likes.

Plastic Army Men - had HUNDREDS!
Wax Coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside - ugh.
Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles - Loved those.
Coffee shops with tableside jukeboxes - some places still do.
Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum. - I love Blackjack.
Tinker Toys, Lincoln Logs - they're all plastic now! What a bummer.
And Marlin Perkins - I remember him. The rest is way beyond before I was even thought of.

Girl, are we the same age or what? I remember them all and yes I am smiling, remembering a time when life was so much easier for most of us. And a lot more fun. Even tho times were hard then with money and not a lot of things that could help you, like todays automatic washer machines, etc. we still seemed to enjoy life so much more. Rarely heard of violence, or bad things. PPL were mostly all friendly and nice to each other, just a whole different time for most of us. I happen to be a white lady, and I remember life with such great memories. But, if you talk to someone that is black, they will remember things way more differently, as things were very hard for them then. They had no rights at all. So as we look back at the good old days with such fond memories, we must REMEMBER that for many those werent the good ol days at all. So , in certain ways, we did make much progress. Yet, in many ways, we have not progressed at all, we only lost a lot of what we aready had.
But, I thank you for this question, and I pray it makes many long for those days again, of innocene, and do what it takes for us to have them again. When I read here about the roller skate keys, I could have just sat and laughed all day long. I remember the roller skates and the keys, and what fun . Us girls in our little pony tails, just giggling at life and enjoy every moment, not having any idea there was terror anywhere in the world. Why cant we all live decently today and get together and show that we can have those days back, if we will just live as God says and learn to love , honor and respect God and each other too. Never worried about violence in school back then, news was mostly GOOD NEWS... such a different time. At least us older folks have our memories. My heart breaks for the youth of today have do not have those kinds of memories at all.
Oh, lets pray that we can be that way again. WE know we will have it that way in Heaven, but lets live some kingdom living right here and now and have a slice of it TODAY.
I pray it so.
Thanks for the neat question. You always make us think and remember...God bless you

My three favorite toys : Army Men, Lincoln Logs (real wood), and Erector set.

What is Sky King? OH sky king was gas, right?

"Fullerbrushman" always they said it as one word. I'm a little young to have personal memory of car hops, drive-in restaurants, studebakers, and Cigs for Christmas, and I guess I lived somewhere else from you so don't know Chief Pontiac but you pretty well defined my childhood with
the others.

Never did learn how to open those metal icecube trays with any success.

I remember pretty many of them, or have at least heard of most of them.
Actually, my grandpa delivered milk in those glass bottles. My dad told us many stories about those experiences. Lol, funny thing I remember is that my grandpa had red hair, but none of his kids did. Then my parents (both with dark brown, almost black hair) ended up with 2 red-haired boys, and since they were in the Air Force where no one knew that "Grandpa Emory" had red hair, everyone asked where it came from. My mom would always say they got it from the milk man. Oh, the looks she got!

oohh eyelovesjesus, candy cigarettes, they were great. Remember how they used to put red dye on the ends so that they looked lit. Well you can still get them here but they are like bricks and they come like broken biscuits, loose in a bag, not like when we were young, when they put them in a little cigarette packet.
though I understand why they were discontinued, I miss them lol
