Do pagans refer to 'Christmas' at all, do they follow the present-giving tradition, and if so how do they explain the whole festival to their children?

I realise there are many different facets of paganism, from the Hellenics to the Northern traditions. But despite it's pre-Christian origin, the december festival is now so inextricably linked with Christianity globally & is so commercially huge, that I just wonder how it translates into the pagan calendar & lifestyle?

thanks

John 10:33ff. "We are not stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."

Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'? If he called them 'gods,' to whom the word of God came—and the Scripture cannot be broken—what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, 'I am God's Son'?"

There is so much controversy with religion on answers. It seems like alot of people can't respect other peoples beliefs and feel the need to come on here and criticize people, whether they are atheist or christian. I'm a christian but I feel that everyone is free to believe what they want and shouldn't be criticized for it. I get tired of seeing people slam the christians on here for believing in something other than what they believe in. It's wrong. Anyone else agree?

I've read and heard a lot of ideas about what is beyond the envelope. Since no one will ever know for sure, here's my imagination on it. Pulling back from Earth, the surroundings become flashy specks. Eventually, the solar system is a speck. Then, the Milky Way. Then, other galaxies. Then, the cosmos. All of the surrounding specks begin condensing. As you near the end of the journey, you see a shape take form. It resembles a leg. On the leg are the words, "King of Kings. Lord of Lords."

God is defined as love as i said...And Mercyful and so on...
However, God, as some people believe, is responsible for natural disasters e.g. hurricanes etc...
If our so called God is what the Bible depicts he is then how could he bring him/herself to cause or even allow such disasters that claim the lives of millions of inoccent people...

The trinity idea was conceived long ago so Christianity would appeal more to Hindus. The Hindus have Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva that represent the same power (the Supreme Being), but in three different aspects.

Lord Brahma brings forth the creation and represents the creative principle of the Supreme Being. Lord Vishnu maintains the universe and represents the eternal principle of preservation. Lord Shiva represents the principle of dissolution and recreation. These three deities together form the Hindu Trinity.

And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea,
Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the 8 horns of the gold altar before God, telling the sixth angel who held the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the banks of the great river Euphrates."
So the four angels were released, who were prepared for this hour, day, month, and year to kill a third of the human race.

Now before any of you go bonkers ranting about the Bible and posting Bible quotes, I'm not talking about God. I'm referring to the man-made institution of religion.

If people want to be close to God (whether God exsists or not) why are they unable to do it on their own? Why must they access God through some holy dude wearing a funny hat? When I was a child, I talked to my imaginary friends by myself, not through my mother.

Is it just that not enough people think for themselves? It seems to me that if God created me then what would matter to him (or her) is that I be a good person. I don't see why he (or she) would be angry with me if I ate meat on Friday, worked during the sabbath, or ate during the daytime during Ramadan.

How can eating meat on Friday be punishable with eternal Hell anyway? How can any other of the above be considered sinful? Janet Jackson can sum it up in one word--CONTROL!

Religion keeps most people in check with fear and a set of moral guidelines. With fear and guidelines gone... what would become of those that are weak and rely on a figure in their lives? What would become of this world?

Your insight does mean a lot to me whether I agree with it or not, please post your response.

Red pill: you find out the truth. You might have difficulty dealing with it and it might cause you to be very unhappy.

Which would you take and why?
