"Sex can wait: masturbate!"

NO I did not make it up one of my Christian friends said it in a discussion about if masturbation is wrong he said that it's better to just do it that way than to lose your virginity before marriage. What do you think?

Hear me out before the "hellfire and brimstone" crap starts. If a person weeded out the perversion and mindless violence, then did away with all the "books" that were written in the 2nd and 3rd centuries to try to make Jesus out to be something he was not, the bible could be a perfectly good book. As near as I can tell, after dismissing the bigoted garbage added in later, the teachings of Jesus were very good advice for anyone. Leave off the pseudo-history and stick with what we actually know to be true. Forget the made up prophesies, and stick with the good moral points. Kidnapping little girls, raping females, murdering babies, slaughtering helpless farmers, stealing anything that wasn't nailed down, selling your children as slaves and constantly worrying about other men's organs isn't useful nor divine, so why bother to keep such horrible crap in it?

Does freedom of religion extend to a religious group that kills or advocates the murder of those who offend it (through freedom of speech)?

Did they know space is a vacuum, and trying to reach heaven with a tower would be folly? Did they know that well before reaching space the atmosphere is too thin to breathe anyways, so you'll never get there?

God would have no reason to intervene. Their project would have been destined to fail all on its own.

But the people who made up that story didn't realize this, did they? So to them, it seemed like good story.

Ok....feed your dog a LOT.

Then, take the dog poop and spray paint it GOLD.

then, go to church and offer it as a fine metal to G-d.

then, get praises from other Christians about how great you are.

Is that accurate? I think so.

Agree or disagree?

I teach a preschool cooking class and one of the girls who comes is Muslim. Her mom is really nice and I would love to get to know them better. I want to invite them to go to the zoo with us (my kids are about the same age) but I was wondering if there are particular things I should know so as not to offend her. (For example, is the zoo okay?)
Also, what holidays to Muslims celebrate? Do they participate in Halloween and Independence day?

Be nice Please!

It's one thing to have strong beliefs and to stand up for what you believe in. It's another thing to expect everyone else to believe the way you do and treat those who don't like they're stupid, ignorant, close minded, bigoted etc. That goes for both sides of the issue.

Many people try to polarize the issue to make it look like everyone either supports homosexuality or they hate the people who do it. That's simply not the case. Most people who oppose homosexuality do not hate or fear those who do it. They simply dissagree with the behavior for religious or moral reasons.

For some people, Having homosexual thoughts, feeling and desires may not be a choice, but engaging in homosexual relationships or homosexual intercourse is.

If people want to believe that those behaviors are right and want to stand up for them they should have that right. Likewise, if people want to believer those behaviors are wrong they should have an equal right to stand up.

I just read a question once again for the billionth time about how Christians try to shove their faith in a non-believers face. The man asked about prayer in school. Answer me this, according to this link, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17879317/site/newsweek/

90% of the American people believe in God. the make up of America is, 82% Christian, 9% Muslim/Jewish. That leaves 9% Atheist. Did you catch that 82% Christian. This is my question, I have three sons in School, and I am forced to pay through my property tax to support these schools. That is not an option I have. Each son spends 12 years earning a diploma. In those 12 years, they will be taught about Islam and Mohammed, Buddha and Buddhism, they will learn of Darwin and evolution. They will be taught of Ceaser, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Castro and Mason. They will not be taught one thing out of the bible, either as history, poetry, or theology. They will not be taught of the origins of their Christmas Vacation, their Easter Vacation (now called spring brake) they will not learn the meaning behind Thanksgiving. They will learn of Kwanzaa, and Ramadan, and just about everything else that you can name. And you say we shove our religion in YOUR face in school? PROVE IT IF YOU CAN. This is not a rant, just the facts. For once could you people be honest. And I did not LIE about these number follow the link So if the 82% of us want to say a prayer asking God to bless our children at Graduation, can you people not just be quite for 30 seconds out of 12 years? Would it really kill you?

I see this question at least ten times a week here in different forms, and frankly I'm sick of it, so with a little inspiration from other posters - especially the 'femtroll' kind - I want to ask it in a completely different way.

If being gay really is a choice, then when will the straight women who think so finally realize the part they played in having guys make that choice in the first place? After all, a choice isn't something you make unless you're forced to, or unless you have a limited range of options. And if being gay is a "choice" with so many "good, Krischun women" out there, why would anybody choose it...unless the alternative were undesirable for some reason? (Looking forward to a "flock of trolls" on this one...)

I've heard that the jewish faith is normally passed from mother to son regardless of whether the father is jewish or not. And, as surnames are (usually) passed from father to child, how come traditional jewish surnames are still common (such as Cohen or names ending in ...Stein) Especially since jews are a small minority in practically all countries (save Israel of course). Am I missing something? Do jews usually marry into their own faith?

Because according to the story of the Tower of Babel, everyone was given a different language so that they couldn't communicate as punishment for trying to reach heaven.

So, would trying to learn another language be a sin?
