I think mine was Big John and Sparky! Can't remember if
that was where someone said, "Plunk your magic twanger,
froggy", or another. Can you help me on that in addition to
my original question? We'll see who's a senior or not here LOL.

Plyjanney, I was asking for YOUR favor-
ite radio program when you were a
child, not your kids favorite LOL. Surely
you had one?
Thanks for the reminder of Buster Brown. I thought I only heard the commercial. I guess I have some criss
crossed memories as to what the shows
were called. So thanks for the input. It's
fun going back to when we were kids!

The name of the program with the Italian
writing letters, was "Life with Luigi", and
starred J.Carrol Nash. Pasquale was not
the main character. Luigi Bosco was. It
took place in New York, as my hubby
recalls.
He also remembers that Teddy Bears'
Picnic was the theme song for Big John
and Sparky. And that Sparky was an elf
who wanted to be a boy. And that show
was "Lets' Pretend".
For future posters, please list your
favorite 'childrens' show, not a list of
the adult shows on in the evenings. I'll
be voting on just those with reference
to the childrens programs we enjoyed.

Denie: Uncle Remus was the black
character in the movie, "Song of the South". I don't remember a radio program. I wonder if anyone else does?
I think that movie was my favorite as a kid. I loved the stories told.

Mmm. Big John and Sparky sounds really familiar to me. Is that the one that used the "Teddy Bears Picnic" song as their theme song? I loved that.
My little brother & I used to bump our wooden kitchen chairs up tight to the cabinet, and listen to the kitchen radio. Wore deep ridges into the base cabinet doors.

I think you're thinking about the " Buster Brown Show". Or was that the " Howdy Doody Show"? I liked them too. Also Gang Busters, Blondie & Dagwood, Fibber Magee and Molly, The Opry, Amos N' Andy, The Shadow, and so many more. We also had a music show called " Easy Does it with Easy Quinn " which I listened to every day after school.
The show was from an Indianapolis, In. radio station. He spun the current and old records.
shortstuff, I totally forgot about Inner Sanctum. Was that where the door opened ever so slowly and creaking real loud?
That was so scary and fun. Thanks for reminding me.
And how could I ever have forgotten...." hi-yo Silver.." Do you remember what Tonto always said? " get-em up Scout..."

I listened to a snippet just now of the "Big Jon & Sparky" show & there was made mention of a frog. As a little girl I listened to :
Inner Sanctum
Death Valley Days
Amos 'n Andy
Fibber McGee & Mollie
The Bickersons
The Lone Ranger
Howdy Doody
Sky King
The Goldbergs
I listened to these with my mom & enjoyed curling up on the couch with my blankie & listening to them. I usually fell asleep during the evening after listening to a few radio shows.

Mine was The Lone Ranger, Lassie, Sky King, Death
Valley Days. Laurel and Hardy, and the Mickey Mouse
Club.
And yes, I do remember the Buster Brown show. It was
on Saturday mornings, after something called Rootie
Kazootie, at least in the NY area.

That was my favorite too. I can't remember if that line was from that show. I was really floored when I was overseas as an adult and the show was being played on a Christian radio station in Okinawa. I also heard it later on via another Christian shortwave station which is based in Oakland California and is called Christian Family Radio. I assume they were using recordings of the original show in both instances.

Actually I had 2 , Maggie Muggins .It was about a little girl the same age as I was (7) and her friend farmer McGreggor. I could relate to her adventures, we didn't get a tv until 1952. I also listened to Johnny and his magic skis. I loved that show because the boy could fly on his magic skis.

As for me, I liked "Let's Pretend" that came on every Saturday morning at 10:00 AM Central time. I was around 9 years old.

It was the Storybook Lady, who came on the local station every Saturday morning. She had such a nice, soft voice, one geared just for children. She read fairytales each week.
Much to my horror, as an adult I heard myself on a recording, and I was listening to the storybook lady again, except with a Southern drawl!
I don't think we got any syndicated children's shows.
Edit --
Mydearsie named it. It wasn't the Storybook Lady, it was "Let's Pretend."
Edit2 --
Tealc666, it was Pasquale. I always remembered him saying stuff like "You should be happy and gay like me, always smiling and laughing! Ha-Ha-Ha! Ooh, my rheumatism is killing me!" (That was in the days when gay really meant something that everyone could be.)
