Doesn't seem to be the case. In Sweden about 4% of the population attends church, yet they seem pretty calm, don't they? Contrast that to the United States, which is known for high church attendance and high crime.

Well, if you were to objectively look at religions, they really are nothing more than mans first attempt to do two things. One, instill order as well as consequences for actions; and two, to explain how man arrived to exist and why we're here. Hammurabi (sp??) code (eye for an eye) came after the bible was written.
From that perspective, you could theorize that there would have been total chaos. But you would also have to realize that some type of law or rule would have been made.
I wouldn't say chaos would have occurred because thats one of the things that religion was trying to combat, so it already existed both before and after the advent of religion.
For those of you saying life would better or more peaceful, no it wouldn't. People were slaughtered, killed, murdered, etc. throughout history for reasons other than religion or ideaology.
If you think about it, those are wars based on difference of opinion AND POWER. Those religious groups are led by people who desire to control. Religion doesn't change that.

I'm not sure because there is always the few who use religion to for their own purposes. Those that rely on a figure might look to someone else for faith, I believe that moral guidelines come from the environment and ones self.
The world could be better/worse/same I'm not sure, so I'm sorry I can't fully answer your question

Religion doesn't have anything to do with morals. The law is actually the guidelines. For example; In places they have religion like in various parts of Africa they do not have law and hence people are being slaughtered.

Most wars have been religious wars. Most conflicts are over differing religious views. People kill in the name of their religion, try to conquer other peoples in the name of their religion, etc...
Morals do not necessarily come from religion, it comes from your education, upbringing, and sense of right and wrong. Accepting of others regardless of beliefs would make the world a more peaceful place. But, religious folks cannot accept others who believe differently...

ok- first- non secular characteristics are inherent in many ideologies and many ideologies are no longer non secular. human beings might nevertheless pass to conflict because of the fact of techniques approximately existence, human beings might nevertheless join society, human beings might nevertheless have self belief in suitable and incorrect- merely because of the fact somebody accepts ethical relativism does not propose they on the instant start up enslaving their neighbours and procreating with their babies. Morality isn't borne of religion- as possible information; * traditionally. eg. Hammurabi's code grew to become right into a legal framework that cautioned and long predated Deutoronomy and Leviticus yet grew to become into no longer jewish in beginning place). * Rationally. eg. human beings are social animals and require one yet another for survival, and subsequently will set to verify risk-free, rich and lasting circumstances- government is only an expression of this choose. * Empirically. you will locate among charity, social provider and different low-pay altruistic professions- like case in point interior the pink go, rankings and rankings of secular humanists and atheists- all guidance what they have self belief to be the greater advantageous 'sturdy'. faith- or theory in God- won't pass away this international a bang yet with a whimper.

Is it just mere coincidence that areas in the "Holy Land" (Lebanon, West Bank, Jerusalem) are plunged into chaos every few months/weeks? I think not.
A world without religion would be undoubtedly more peaceful. Religion divides - division causes conflict.

Actually, I think religion is the cause of all chaos. If the Holy Spirit was removed from his work on the Earth then all hell would break out.

Actually, what keeps people in check is societal pressures. Religion is merely one of the ways that those pressures are expressed. If there were no religion, something would fill the void and exert the pressure.
Things would be much as they are.

Absolutely not. Atheists are generally very intelligent and moral people. Morals are not confined to religion, and why would they be? Why would you only be a good person just because of a religion? Seems kind of dumb to me.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And NO RELIGION too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
