The Bible doesn't go into much back-story on their relationship before Moses left Egypt, so it's difficult to see how it changed (if it even did).

I appreciate Harsha & Carmen's (the writers) take on the back-story relationship & conflicts between Moses and Ramses. I think they did a fine job of presenting realistic possibilities without infringing on Biblical authority or assulting traditional views.

According to the movie, Ramases welcomed Moses back with open arms, when Moses first returned to Egypt. He was just happy to have his brother back.

The problem started when Moses started speaking up for the slaves. At that point, there were two leaders of nations facing each other, and neither nation was friendly towards each other. Ramases did not want to recognize Moses' authority within his own country (in Egypt, the Pharoah was also God), and so they became enemies.

Ramses was always jealous of Moses because he got most of Seti's attention. Becoming pharoh and continuing work on the sphynx allowed him to get a step up on his brother.

In the movie, Rameses became Pharoah while Moses was away. When Moses came back, his brother was Pharoah and their relationship was pretty much ruined because Moses was against the slavery and Rameses wasn't. Also, Rameses didn't like how Moses was giving him commands to free them.
