I went to a Catholic high school where I distinctly remember being taught that only humans have souls to the exclusion of all other animals. I have also seen this assertion repeated on yahoo answers several times (only humans can go to heaven, only humans can sin, etc, etc...).

Now, if you recognize and understand evolution, which many of you do of course, then do you believe that human ancestors did not have a soul? They were much simpler forms of life after all. Also, if you believe they didn't, at what point did humans begin having souls? How human did our ancestors have to get before their soul sprung into existence?

I guess what I'm asking is what criteria does an organism have to meet in order to have a soul? At what point do you think our soul came into existence? Is there an official answer to this from the Catholic church? If other great apes have been proven capable of reasoning does this mean they too can have a soul? I'm curious if the church has a stance.

It just seems that everyone has become wary and distrustful of people around them. I have just moved to a new country that is considered very cosmoplitan and open...but everyone i meet and speak to who also have been living there over a period of time talk about how difficult it is to develop new relationships..despite there being people from over 20 major nationalities living in this country, one ends up meeting with only one's own kind and socialise with the chosen few whom one feels 'safe' with. I find that globalisation hasnt freed the human mind- just made it more unaccepting. Any thoughts?

I've been watching some shows online from other countries, like Britain, France, Switzerland, etc. and I realize they have better writing, greater ideas, and aren't focused so much on Reality TV. So why is it that these countries have great tv, and America, with so many companies and budgets, can't produce anything but crap?

If God plans and forms people before conception, then unwed mothers are just doing God's will. This seems true with Psalm 139:16, at least for Christians.

If Gods name isnt Jehovah, and JW's have never seen God in person? Why are they Jehovah Witnesses?

Shouldnt they be like "Creator Gods believers" or "higher power think tank" and so on and so forth.

BTW for all concerned, "Jehovah" is the german word for Yahweh. So unless YHWH was definately Gods spelled out name, and God is German, then Jehovah ISNT his name.

Are they really witnessing for him? Does one who denies the trinity and deity of Christ a good witness? Would they worship Jesus if he walked into the room as the apostles did? Or say "Hi prophet-only Jesus?"

If Im wrong on any of these, feel free to correct almighty God watchtower guards.

Friends why dont we stop believing in the constantly changing opinions and stop being let down by things you can't rely upon and believe the unchanging fact of creation through God and Jesus Christ. I am just showing what some fellow intellectuals have put out here, go take it up with them if you don't like it.

This question was brought up when I was with some friends last night, and I found it to be particularly interesting.

Personally, I say 'no', only the reaction *to* that emotion can be a choice, but I'm interested in other opinions.

I'm not sure of what the difference is between sentences like the following ones:
I can't wait for the weekend to begin
I can't wait that the weekend begins
or...
I want you to bring me there
I want that you bring me there

Are all correct or not??
If yes, do they mean exactly the same or do you use them in different cases, for example to emphasize some aspects of the request?

60 seems the magic number of age to feel "old"

40? Lots of people say life start at 40.
50? I want a new life.
60? " Iam 60, nothing much I can do!"

This question was asked yesterday, and the first responder's sentiment isn't a unique one. I've seen comments like this before here.

Would someone please explain to me how -- or why -- an atheist would be jealous of a Christian?
