" Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. Romans 1:22-27

Give me some proof from Jesus himself and not some random guy that the christians picked up because he told them that they basically had to do nothing in return for heaven Other than ''take the christ as their saviour'', which would convince someone rational that Jesus doesn't want you to follow the laws of Moses (After he had specifically said that he didn't want to abolish them)?

Whatever religion you are, would you be able to accept that what I believe (I am atheist) is my right?

Would you be able to accept that and not try to tell me I am wrong and you know better? Can you accept that you may believe me to be wrong, but that doesn't necessarily make me wrong? (In the same way, of course, I may think you are wrong, but that is just my opinion and doesn't necessarily make it true).

Based on recent questions and answers, it SEEMS as if atheists are heavier readers than theists. To clarify this issue, I'd like to take a totally unscientific poll.

1) How often to you read scripture?
2) How often do you read strictly for pleasure? (Do not include studying, assigned reading, or scriptural reading.)
3) What is your religious affiliation?

I can't wait to see the results. Thanks in advance for your answers.

can anybody tell me besides the fact that it is kinda "popular" to hate the USA these days, and besides some personal frustrations and the war on IRAQ (which has almost nothing to do with european civilians), why on EARTH do so many people hate the USA and the americans these days??!!
(and before jumping on me and attacking me, NO, i'm not a USA citizen, i've never even been to USA in my life!)

In a democracy 51% of the population oppress the remaining 49%, but in a Republic each town, county, and state is free to decide its own laws. Since Christians make up the majority of the population, they should want a democracy, and since atheists make up a slim percent of the population they should want a Republic where they could have their own little strongholds. They cannot have this in a democracy.

Do you follow? Personally I am a Jeffersonian Republican (a true Republican). Modern Republicans are like Lincoln... nationalist pigs, not much different then democrats. But still, if I (as a Christian) wanted to have my way for everything I would push for democracy since my brethren make up a majority. Atheists in a democracy cannot do much until they make up a large percent of the population, hence they should be Republicans.

Jefferson and I are very different in matters of religion, but close when it comes to politics. Separation of Church and State and such.

Because they’re both works of fiction, it’s just that most of theology is a lot older. But whether you’re a master of theology or the world’s most devoted Star Trek fan, your contribution to the progress of our species is pretty much the same. Except that Star Trek might inspire people to build spaceships, whereas religion seems only to inspire people to be prejudiced, among other less helpful exploits.

When most of the time, its just the morals and the principles or the belief that people truely follow! OK, maybe moses didn't part a sea with his bare hands, and maybe he didn't call nine plagues on the Pharoah, but thats really besides the point isn't it? The bible gives each and every one of us a guideline to live by, Don't murder, Don't steal, Don't commit adultry. I think the bible gives each and every one of us a lesson to be learned.

And for some people, religion is their hope, their life string. Every day people with severe illnesses and drug addictions fight with maybe some hope that someone up there has there back. It gives them hope.

So Athiest, and other religion bashers, don't blame a few crazed fanatics who use religion as an excuse for war and killing, and we all know its impossible to part seas. Just remember that religion has done a lot of good to a lot of people.
