Whatever religion you are, would you be able to accept that what I believe (I am atheist) is my right?

Would you be able to accept that and not try to tell me I am wrong and you know better? Can you accept that you may believe me to be wrong, but that doesn't necessarily make me wrong? (In the same way, of course, I may think you are wrong, but that is just my opinion and doesn't necessarily make it true).

I commend most of you on your sensible answers. My question is not a dig at religious or non religious people; it is not aimed specifically at any one religion, but at everyone on YA.

Mordent, you are spot on. .kalida b, this is just what I mean. Islam may work for you, but I have my own faith and you disrespect it by telling me to 'try' yours.

I can accept you have a right to believe what you want.

I do not accept that you have a right to try and persaude me to believe what you believe, nor to believe you are better than others by believing it, nor that you have a right not to have your beliefs challenged.

Of course, but belief is something you know a lot about and is sounded down into your whole being. Properly belief is from evidence and testing. I don't know that a non belief fits the bill. How could someone who doesn't believe in something be interested enough to be very deep on the subject. I suppose one stronger motivation behind Atheism is a repulsion to a demonic killer God. Some scriptures taken out of context to a different time and mentality make God vengeful. In the context of all scripture, however it proves to be that nature and physics is unforgiving and the universe exist because of the laws of physics and social behavior that would work if applied. Unfortunately to many religionists don't seem to have a scientific "spirit of truth."
Another problem is that some seem to think that science has all the answers, now, when actually we are just out of the caves, if we are, and really only think we know it all. Quantum Physics seems to be showing that miracles follow laws too and the laws suspiciously seem to relate to scriptures awfully well, when the scriptures are understood in context, perish the thought.
In short they have put on a poor showing. Christians and people of spirituality in all the disciplines are causing breakthroughs in every field and it's astounding. Sacred text haven't been given much credit because the money and fame goes to the person who does take the credit. I think the scientific approach is to have an open mind until we look at all the facts. Looking at all the facts in spirituality, psychology, sociology or philosophy would be a position that would gain the most respect. An educated opinion. How many subjects can we say no way to before we are in a tight space?

Why not? There really is no reason to question your faith. After all, what counts is how you react or respond to life. It is your good deeds in this world or lifetime that counts and not whatever religion you are in. If you strongly believe you did the right thing and it is for the good of yourself or others or that you have not committed a sin, such as taking others life, possessions, and that you are living a good life so be it. You have every right to decide whatever religion you wanted to be a part of as long as you are doing the right thing at the right time. Go on with that faith in your mind and heart for no one would question your decision. Who know, at the end of the line, at the edge of this life all our paths would meet and we will all find out, what really is the most important thing that each and everyone needed to nourish our spiritual life. It's nice to be a part of an organization that speaks and teaches only of good things, and we as members are sincere and follow its teachings without question or doubt,;that we need also to extend our arms to others, forgive and accept also their imperfections and posting any comment; it is necessary that we all learn to praise each other and share the benefits of having a good life rather than criticize each other for that in itself is already a sin to look up to. An act that would cause guelt, it would not feel good to sleep and say things that would or might hurt others. Really there's so much to learn in this life, so much that needs sacrifices for others to see how goodness and harmony goes together. And the best word to be used is love , if only people will discover the meaning of love and how it will do magic in our life. So then will we realize that we have so much pride in our heart that we almost forgot we're not the only one that exists in this world, there are others that need help, spiritually or physical help. They need attention but they hardly have that, they need food, they hardly have that also, they need a place to rest their tired and dirty bodies, they hardly have that only the pain of hunger, resentment. Maybe it's about time we think too, not of what we feel , but how we can extend our hand for others. By doing that, there is a feeling of contentment and happiness that we made others happy.
then we will forget about our desire for a while.....

Everyone has the right to believe anything at all. The only time it's a problem is when they try to force those beliefs on others.
Believe what you want and to heck with anyone else, just don't insist anyone else believes the same way you do.

i'm not sure why you would feel the need to be accepted. i think that this is more like an agree to disagree thing. please understand that any Christian believes that you will go to hell without having sought God and forgiveness. hell is a high price and most people would argue with you because they care enough to be concerned about the consequence your choice would bring. whether they are right/wrong , understand that the intent behind it is good. i personally believe that they are right. i would rather have forgiveness and seek out God and then to get there and find out it wasn't needed than to travel there and be without insurance. why risk it ? the benefits in life are great too. membership does have its privileages as they say :-)

Of course you have that right. I am curious about something,
I have read so many different non christians on ya, who all seem to be protesting the grief they are getting from christians. But where is this coming from? I mean i'm only answerring you because you asked.
Is there some mad army of christians running around your town preaching god at you or what?
Why the assault on christians, i don't get it????

I entirely agree with you. You are entitled to any belief you wish and I hope people will respect your attitude.

However, I am a Christian and have firm beliefs in God and His works so I would expect the same respect from you.

I also respect those who knock on doors professing their Faith but do not agree with their principles and where their understanding comes from so listen to their words and politely ask them to leave.

It's called, understanding and extends, in my mind, to all Religions and non-believers.

Of course

I know there are a lot of fanatics around this place, but that dosent make everyone fanatic. In real life, most people accept the fact that others can think otherwise (civilised people do in any case)

I have friends of many religions and atheists too. I've been talking about religion with most of them, i like knowing other view points. We never started to argue

I respect your right to believe what you wish indeed i respect a persons right not to believe at all in anything.
That is to say i respect a persons right to believe in the absence of anything as well.

However i hold onto the right to argue my own beliefs if they come under attack and i will fight organised religion in its attempt to destroy the planet with the praying and bombing nonsense.

Absolutely!! You have free will and that is precious to everyone. I wouldn't preach to you, no I would not. I know that other Christians think I should convince you or badger you into believing what I do, but I would respect you more than that. You are a free agent and act on your own decisions. I respect that freedom.
