Think about it. Many Atheists can't agree on if Jesus, Muhammad or Buddha ever existed. However Christians cannot agree on if the earth is 6,000 years old or 60 billion years old. For myself (Christian) I am a history major, and I admit I am ignorant when it comes to science.

Why do christians believe that Harry Potter is so bad, it's a fictional movie about magic, Fantasia. In Harry Potter I see many good lessons for children to learn, about standing up for themselves and doing the right things. So tell me, when Harry is portrayed as the good guy and Valdemorte as the bad guy, why is it so evil? I'm sorry but don't christians scare the **** out of little kids telling them if they do something wrong that they will go to hell forever? and that the only way for them to not go to hell is to worship god? Sounds to me like the truth is more damaging to young children than the movie...

I have been invited to several (hindu) weddings where on the invitation card it says "No Gift Box Please" I am totally confused as to what that means. Should I NOT give the bride and groom any gift, should i give them money in an envelope or should i only gift them stuff that's not contained in a gift box!!??!! Please help

this question is mainly for african-americans, but you're just as welcome to answer if you're of another ethnicity. :)

here goes: the stereotypical black person is someone who lives in the ghettoes, talks trash, speaks in ebonics, loves rap/jazz and isn't very smart... or articulate (is that right?).

now supposing you have this black person who lives a lifestyle far different from this caricature of an african american. this person speaks proper english, does not swear, has a well-paying job, lives in the suburbs and likes classical/country/rock/anything that isn't rap. he's also been a consistent honor student throughout his school years and is currently a member of mensa international.

such persons are sometimes labelled by gangstas and the like as being "ashamed of being black". would you agree?

I'm catholic and used to be really religous. But i stopped going to church about 2 years ago and have recently stopped praying. I've noticed that things have become so bad for me. What should i do? i would like to go back to church but so ashamed to confess some of the things i have done. i dont wanna live this life anymore. And I am sorry for all my sins. has my life become bad because God is punishing me or is it because he is not helping me anymore? I'm also worried that if i go back to church the devil will try to get me.

How do you feel about this? I know that there must have been tons of questions asked about this before I got onto this part of YA, but now, I want your honest opinions, please.

Here's my opinion, AGREE or DISAGREE, tell me why:
Like I always say, stereotypes have to start somewhere! I mean, it's like black men owning pitt bulls or white people being hillbillies, or chinese people growing rice, or mexicans stealing things, and that...it had to start somewhere. If it hadn't have happened at one time or another and frequently, it wouldn't be a stereotype. I'm just sorry that nobody can overlook the mistakes of others and get to know people for who they are.

I'm white, and I don't like to be known as a hillbilly or a preppy white girl that carries a chihuahua in her purse, but what am I gonna do? Get mad because my race has embarrassed itself? No, I'm going to try and change how people see us. Complaining only contributes to the lack of effort being put into change for the better.

My mom's husband, who is a preacher, insists on repeating the phrase "Knowledge is ignorance" in opposition to scientific research and findings and talks about man leaning on his own understanding. Why are members of the scientific community accused of "Leaning on their own understanding" when, in fact, their experiments are intended to thoroughly challenge their own theories, speculations, and beliefs even beyond the 5 naked senses? Meanwhile, religious devotees proclaim to have all the answers which exempts them from researching outside the parameters of the understanding upon which they lean. Historically, people had believed that the world was flat, the sun revolved around the earth, our solar system was the center of the universe, and natural calamities were often caused by witchcraft or magic. If one chooses to find truth in this doctrine, could it possibly be interpreted to address the people of that time period or perhaps man's initial perception prior to real knowledge?
