It is the same reason why we ask our children not to play the fool knowing full well that they will.
The passing of a commandment has no sinister intent in it. It is in fact, for our good and is absolutely necessary (just as the state passing a law telling us not to beat the red light is for our good and is absolutely necessary).
The passing of any commandment is therefore, not based on whether man will break it or not but whether it is beneficial for us or not.
Prior to eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Adam and Eve only knew good things. Everything was perfect as the bible said. The fruit was forbidden because then Adam and Eve will also know evil things and thus the need of the commandment.

Maybe we have free will, but the question is why did God give a command when he fully knew that it would not be followed.
Since he already knew, why not just not put the tree there, or create Adam and Eve so that they would follow God's word.
Why create beings, then put them in a world with rules that they cannot follow?
So that they need God, or so that they need whoever is in charge of salvation on Earth - the Catholic Church, at that time.

What kind of parent would not let a child know of certain dangers? Of course the greatest way a child could learn is by making mistakes for themselves, but a fair warning is in good order.

God is kind of an observer.
its almost like he's a person watching a real-time movie that he's seen like a thousand times and knows exactly how it's going to end.
the trick is, he gave us free will because he wanted us to CHOOSE to love him, rather than making some slave creation that HAD to love him.

He still gave man a choice to reject sin and fellowship with Him.

Who are you to question God and go against God? Do you think you are more intelligent than God.

It's all Eve's fault. That's why women have periods to this day.
