God never even existed (and the earth isn't really spherical, it's flattened a bit at the poles and bulging at the equator).

But as said, it was gravity and hydrostatic equilibrium that did it (with the bulge at the equation coming from the rotation of the Earth).

not even scientists know why, but the circular movement of matter seems quite basic. There are theories on why planets rotate but they are incomplete. Today other factors that Einstein had intuitively accounted for are being discovered. Dark energy and black matter, both which can not be measured scientifically are heavy on the agenda for planet rotation on their axis and around
and sun. Remember God is the most creative force in existence, other universes may be governed by different laws and could be quite different from here and still hold highly intelligent life. I suspect the spheres correspond to the laws of physics which govern the formation of matter.

There are plenty of things which aren't mentioned in the bible ... it isn't the source of all human knowledge. Can you imagine how inaccessible it would be if it included The Book of Astronomy and The Book of DNA Sequencing ?

I think it's because at the time that the Bible was written, the people who wrote it did not know that the planets were spherical.

Isaiah 40:22

It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

clearly says circle of the earth. sphere is a modern word formed around the 1700's.
