Why do christians believe that Harry Potter is so bad, it's a fictional movie about magic, Fantasia. In Harry Potter I see many good lessons for children to learn, about standing up for themselves and doing the right things. So tell me, when Harry is portrayed as the good guy and Valdemorte as the bad guy, why is it so evil? I'm sorry but don't christians scare the **** out of little kids telling them if they do something wrong that they will go to hell forever? and that the only way for them to not go to hell is to worship god? Sounds to me like the truth is more damaging to young children than the movie...

...the Harry Potter (fantasy stories) in and of themselves are just stories, however, "children" cannot discern in many instances the differences between "reality" and "fantasy"... Here in lies the problem... It is the "parents" responsibility to teach their children that Harry Potter is a "story of fiction" and is not real... If they can teach their children, then, the "story's" can be received as "fun" and entertainment... If the child is absorbed and captured into the fantasy...then... the damage occurs... So first... parents need to be educated to help their children...

Don't stereotype an entire group.... there are plenty of us that enjoy Harry Potter. And plenty of ministers that enjoy it as well.

As a teacher, I see all of the lessons that come out of it. And that is what my 12 year old daughter has picked up on as well. Now, she does want a marauders map, but who can blame her... that would be very cool!

I do think that parents need to make sure the kids are old enough to read the books and to understand them. Not sure the 4 and 5 year old crowd really gets it! My girls had to be 10 to be able to read Harry Potter, since that was how old he was in the first book.

Originally people who were gifted in the medicinal arts, understanding planetary and seasonal cycles, or were perhaps endowed with a natural sensitivity to nature and their surrounding were deemed as witches and warlocks by followers of other religions. There is no such thing and there were never such thing as sorcerors after the traditional desription but there were people who had a deeper understanding for the way nature worked and the functions of the universe. Their knowledge conflicted with the ways of the rulers which meant that they would less likely follow or conform. They believed that nature was the basis but the polytheistic and monotheistic followers didn't blieve in natural order, they believed in a divine order which created a heirarchy for society to follow.

Things haven't changed much in the last 4,000 years. People are criticized even today for having a more profound understanding of the universe and the environment.

Short and to the point:

Harry Potter encourages the young ones to look into spiritualism and the results can be very dangerous.

Hell doesn't exist neither, so about that whole telling kids that if they are bad they will burn turn forever, is also wrong and as you said can be damaging to the young ones.

Good Question. But the Harry Porter just encourages children to witchcraft and many other evil things. These children are imitating the characters and slowly they drift away from the Truth.

Hey, Vic the Poet:
I'd like to see your Bible if you say there's no hell!
Hell is real, mate.

You know how sometimes people can be resuscitated after they've already died?
I heard that one time this guy was trying to revive someone (not a Christian).
He managed to revive the man and he woke up screaming, "I'm burning! Hell is real! Help me! No!" and stuff like that.
Unfortunately, he wasnt able to keep the man alive and he died.
As this guy found out, hell is real.

There are some who want to see it banned because of the witchcraft in the books.
Most of these same people however think that The Chronicals Of Narnia are excellent books even though they contain witchcraft as well.
Could it be that the fact that C.S.Lewis was a prominent christian have anything to do with their way of thinking?

the irony that most christians don't know this by now. What an oxymoron to say "oh you'll be burned forever if you practice witchcraft" when both ideas are pagan. Harry practices witchcraft and in witchcraft one thinks they are as eternal gods because they say they don't die. There are "christians" teaching the same thing.

Hmm so you begin trying to make points and persuade Christians to your perspective, and you were doing okay, but you end up on the offensive, putting the Christians on the defensive by insults, and now they will not be willing to be listen at all. You really have very little sense when it comes to persuasive arguments. Instead you are polemic. Sad. Sad.

Candi, you see the lessons learned but what do children see? do they see lessons or do they see fun looking things such as flying on brooms or casting spells, you have to think outside the box, although Harry Potter is interesting to the Adults, our children should not be exposed to it because they don't know anything about world yet. It could spike their interest to look up sites as they get older and they might learn that their are real witches and want to become one. Everything fine to you might have different effect on others.

Harry Potter isn't all that bad because as adults we know whats real or not but as for Children thats a different story regardless if you tell them its not real.
