I am atheist therefore I do not believe that pregnancy is a gift from God (since I do not believe that God exists).

I am morally against abortion. I would personally never have an abortion. I believe that it is morally wrong to prevent the life of an unborn child. There are plenty of other alternatives.

BUT I do not believe that just because I find abortion to be morally wrong that it should be illegal. I do not desire to legistlate my beliefs. I do think that abortion should be more closely controlled and prevented, though. I believe abortion should only be allowed in specific cases (such as rape, incest, or fatal harm to the mother) and that perhaps the mother of the unborn child should be required to receive counceling before making any decision. It is simply not a black and white issue. I think each case should be examined individually. I do not think that any woman/girl should be able to walk into an abortion clinic and be allowed to get an abortion with no previous treatment. It is a major decision that should not be taken lightly.

As far as abortions being legal the entire pregnancy - my opinion is absolutely not.

I believe pregnancy is a precious thing, a wonderful (although scary and sometimes unpleasant) time in a woman's life. But I don't believe it's a "gift" from God. Asking if people "believe" in abortions is a bit general. I'll assume you're asking if we're pro-choice or pro-life. And I'll ask why being pro-choice has to mean that someone is anti-life. I'm certainly not. I don't agree with people who use abortion as repeated birth control. But having close friends who have found themselves pregnant and had to make that choice, I can understand how difficult that decision is. And none of us has the right to decide that for anyone else, including the government. And no, I don't believe that abortions should be legal for the entire term of pregnancy. Once a fetus can be expected to live independently outside the womb, in my eyes, it becomes a baby and should not be aborted except for extreme, and very rare, cases.

Abortion is fine as long as it's early on-- before the fetus has a brain and mind developed, and before it can feel pain. If there is no mind to kill and no pain to feel, then what is the problem? It's not even a life then, just the prerequisite to it. That's the first trimester. After that, you've had your chance to abort and if you waited that long you should have the baby anyway. Three months is a long time to make a decision.

And I don't believe in God, it's just part of life that we have kids. Personally I'm adopting-- I think if God existed he'd be a lot happier that you were taking in a needy kid instead of bringing your own into the world. Why have your own kid when one is starving and needing a home? I think it's selfish to have your own kids when there are needy ones out there.

New Goblin-- no matter how much protection you use, you can get a pregnancy. I'm a woman, I know that. I'm responsible and old enough to choose for myself, but me and my fiance do not want kids and if I do get pregnant I will get an abortion. There are far too many people in this lovely overpopulated world already, and many kids to adopt.

Have you heard of moral pregancies? Look it up sometime. The placenta just grows and 'overwhelms' the embryo.

But the placenta is still there producing hormones, so it seems like there's a normal pregnancy. The only way to find out is by a scan.

The real kicker though is that the mole can become invasive, spreading into the lungs or turning cancerous. Chemotherapy is the basic treatment. And any subsequent pregnancy carries the risk of restimulating the growth.

Imagine that, a normal healthy pregnancy could start a cancer.

Do you *really* want to call that a gift from God?

Procreation is an ongoing process which can be interrupted at any point, right from not having sex in the first place, through contraception, and drugs which prevent implantation, to abortion anywhere up to the moment of birth.

Somewhere along that process, most people would have a point where they consider it's OK to interfere to prevent the birth of a baby up to that point, but not afterwards - e.g. abstinence is OK, but contraception isn't.... or contraception is OK, but abortion isn't... or abortion is OK but only up to week 20... or whatever. It's simply a matter of conscience where you personally decide to draw the line, and on what basis.

For myself, I cannot accept that an undifferentiated bunch of cells has more rights than the fully grown adults who are responsible for its existence. I also cannot accept that it's right to kill a foetus when it's fully developed and due to be born. Logically then, there has to be a point somewhere in between that I decide, on the basis of conscience, is the point at which abortion becomes unacceptable. I don't know enough about it to have a definite view where that point lies, but it must lie somewhere in the 9 months of pregnancy.

It's in the nature of life that there are no easy answers to this kind of question, as it's a matter of subjective opinion rather than objective fact - and my opinion is that abortion cannot be wrong, per se.

Oh, and it's pointless to argue about whether the embryo is 'human life' or not - Of course it is. That is not the issue. The issue is whether a human life at a stage of being a tiny featureless blob of cells should be protected at the expense of the wishes of the parents - and particularly the woman who would have to give birth to it. I don't think it should.

I believe in choice but I do think if abortions are to be done, the sooner the better. But it should not be used as an every day form of birth control. The choice to abort is not an easy one even if there are medical complications to the mother involved. All the do-gooders that oppose abortion are never around when it comes time to raise the child so they should keep their noses out of other people's business.

I believe in abortions. They happen everyday. They do exist.

I am pro-choice. I am not in favor of an abortion past the first trimester BUT I know that I do not have right to force my opinion on anyone else.

I agree that partial birth abortion are wrong if the fetus is viable.

I remember when abortion was first legalized. I was in high school. At that time, abortions were only allowed in the first 12 weeks. When did that change?

Up until a certain point yes. The point is where the brain has started developing and conciousnes. Until then it's pretty much just a peice of meat.

Abortion is NEVER an issues that is in the hands of a society to decide. Abortion is a highly private matter, an should be regarded as such. To control and decide over other peoples lives is just one of the disgusting features of religion. It is enslavement of people and is, in fact, against the constitution of most countries.

Yes I believe in abortion when there is a clear threat to the health of the mother- especially if she is ALREADY a mother to other children who depend upon her for care.
Certainly NOT the entire pregnancy- The first forty days. So around 6 weeks.
And the advent of early pregnancy testing makes this possible.

This will be an unpopular opinion, but I think pregnancies are a result of mother nature taking its course when two people express their love. However, I believe the fetus is a full fledged person with the same rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness that is inherent for all men and women. I don't believe pregnancy is a gift from God, but I don't think abortion is okay.
