The easiest, and fastest way of learning Japanese (or any other language) is to fall madly in love with a Japanese that doesn't speak any other language.

Trust me it works miracles

I can be, however, very very expensive, and not only in money....

The easiest way would find sites like http://learnjapanesepod.com/index/
http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~IF2N-SZK/
http://www.learn-japanese.info/

They are all free. I warn you that learning an Asian language if much harder than learning say French or Spanish. The grammer is completely different and very confusing at first to native-English speakers. Unless you feel like dedicating at least 4 or 5 years to learning Japanese, don't bother because you will not learn enough to actually use it. Possibly 3 years if you do it very often.

I have lived in DC and the Japanese embassy there gave free lessons. If you are near an embassy or consulate you might try contacting them. There are also various web sites. I have a friend who did the embassy thing plus took classes and lived with japanese families through a university language program and then moved to japan. She is now going to school in japan.

I included three below but there are many more. Go to one and be speaking japanese in minutes (at least a few words).
