Toddler & Preschooler - September 2006

I have this wonderful little two year old. She has a sense of humor and a great smile. Usually she is pretty easy going and just loves life and to be with her family. For about a month now the terrible twos has a tendency to creep in. She cries about everything. In the morning, she can pick what she wants to drink- milk, juice, or water. She'll pick juice, then cry when I give it to her. I ask her again what she wants and it keeps on going. Usually she is crying about the things that she has a choice about- the choice is hers and it doesn't matter what she picks. But, after she chooses she has a crying fit, folding her arms, stamping her feet, and shouting "NO!" She is a really great kid but I need some advice on how to make all of our lives easier and happier.

I'm not sure If he is lactose intolerant or does it on purpose but When he cries really hard he throws up. Usually he is crying so hard he starts coughing and then throws up. Last night it was chocolate milk but I can't remember if he has had milk previous times or not. any suggestions? He has been dignosed with whooping cough but It is only a mild case. He only coughs once a day or not at all. He has had antibiotics a few yeeks ago for it but the doc says it can take 100 days for the cough to disapear. Maybe it's just his cough still???

a few minutes ago i went to the restroom , my daughter ,age 3, was playing in her room. as soon as i got into the restroom she snuck into my room and climbed up on my dresser and grabbed my knife. she took it to her room and when i walked by her room i saw it. i put her in time out and after i sent her to her room. i know i should not have had that knife on my dresser, but i never thought she could climb up that high . i have locked it up.
should i take away some of her toys or movies or what ? or is just time out ok?

I'm 9 months pregnant, I'm home with my 2.5 yr old son, who of course is going through his terrible twos. My husband works from 7:30 am to at least 10:00 pm these days (just started a business and we are saving for the baby so he has to work as hard as he is). Anyway, I try and try so hard to have patience for my son and I do for about 3 days straight then I just lose it on the fourth day, I constantly scold him. Is anyone consistently able to be patient and calm everyday and all the time, I can't I try, but I just can't.

Besides plain water or Pedialite? I'm trying not to give my daughter too much sugar, but what kind of drinks am I supposed to give her? They pretty much all have lots of sugar. She doesn't like plain water, she just spits it out and doctors always suggest Pedialite, but that stuff is so expensive! Any suggestions?

I have a 4 year old son. I am so confused about the clothing sizes. I buy him 4t and they are too big in the bottom and the waist and I buy 4 and they don't fit right either. I know the T stands for Toddler but I don't think he is a toddler. Should I just buy size 4?

I am hoping to get into NYC soon with my almost 2 year old daughter to visit a friend of mine. I will most likely need to take a cab once i get there as its a very long walk from the trainstation and i don't trust the subways. I was wondering about the laws regarding children riding in a taxi cab. Is it law to have to use a car seat like it would be in a regular car? The cab drivers can be erratic at times and i am very against traveling without a car seat, however in all the times i've been to the city i never saw anyone lugging around a car seat.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My son has gotten into the habit of letting out this high pitch screech-like scream. Usually for no apparent reason. I don't understand why. The pitch is usually so high that it actually ignites severe headaches. How can I break him of this? I've tried everything from lightly smacking his mouth and telling him "no", to time out, and even whispering to him (so he copies my action and whispers too). Help!! Any advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance.

It looks as though he is trying to talk, but can't. He is a great little guy and is so friendly. I am not ruling out autism, but he doesn't seem to display the symptoms. Should we be concerned?
