I grew up in the 80's and as terrible as this
sounds, lots of parents would smack their kids
around and it was generally accepted. I remember
my friend across the street would occasionally
get "the belt". My parents didn't BEAT me but
they basically would smack us around. Now
you would get child social services called on
you - and thank god for that.. but it just seems
like, only 20 or so years ago, it was perfectly
accpetable to hit your child. any thoughts on
this?

After reading responses in regard to the woman who was kicked off a plane for breastfeeding I just have to ask this question. Many of you said that public nudity is illegal. Or you said you don't want to see a nipple.

When a woman breastfeeds her child you cannot see a nipple!! Why? Because it is in the baby's mouth. The most you see of a woman's breast when she is nursing is part of the top or maybe part of the bottom, depending on what type of top she is wearing. I've seen less skin on a breastfeeding mom than I've seen on women wearing low cut tops with push-up bras. Should we kick any woman wearing a low cut top off a plane because it is considered public nudity to reveal the top portion of her breasts?

I am a single mother of one. Sometimes friends will ask me to do things at the last minute and I can't because of work commitments or because I can't get a babysitter. I feel bad about this and try to explain why I can't, but lately I've noticed some people have stopped asking me to do things unless it is something with quite a bit of notice.
None of my friends have children, so I don't expect them to understand fully. Does anyone else ever have this problem?

My son is 20 years old, strong and healthy (thank God), works full time and makes decent money. He gives me some money out of each check, but our arrangement had been that it would be a low amount and he would do a few chores around the house. Recently, between work and an active social life, he has neglected his chores almost entirely. Here's my question: would it be better to charge him more money and do the chores myself (easier) or force the issue? Opinions?

I just read the above story. Basically a women was kicked off a flight - not for breastfeeding - but for not covering up after being asked.

What are your opinions on this?

Yuck, there was a kid at a recent dinner I went to that touched every piece of bread in the bread basket, and his parents just sat there and watched. Instead of picking a piece and giving it to their son they handed him the whole basket?

Or are they just reacting to a more dangerous environment? It seems as if kids these days do not have a lot of free time outdoors. They spend it either indoors (online) or in scheduled actvities.

I am a new mother that has always had a job all my life, now I have the opportunity to stay home with my son who is now 3 months old, I could stay home for the first year, (no financial problem) which would be wonderful but I also feel the need to get back to work. It's also not that I don't get out socially, so I am around adults or running errands more than half the week. If I did go back to work I would be afraid I would regret it and want to quit but then I would already feel obligated to stay since it was my job for 3 years prior. so I would like to know what you had decided and why and if you could have had the opportunity to stay home instead would you have please tell me your story and how you felt about it afterwards, pros and cons I'm in a big debate here
