you should check around with your local businesses...the credit union i work at does a charity every year for christmas where they take in about a hundred or so envelopes for boys and girls...in the envelope there is a paper that says the child's gender, age, and what they want for christmas...then people who come in take random envelopes off of the tree and buy the things and bring it back to the credit union...it works out really well and it feels good to give...i do it every year!!!!
and marry christmas...i hope things work out for you and your children

Hey I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. My husband lost his job in June and had to resign from this last job he had because the people took his money he earned and were dishonest. Anyway, we don't have a lot of money to spend on our kids this Christmas. Our kids know what the true meaning of Christmas is and that it is about Jesus and family, but still you do feel bad for not getting them something.
We have a place in our town that is like a small town Salvation army I guess you could say. It is really small but anyway they are having a Christmas Store in December where families can go who are in need and get gifts for their children and also for themselves. Also, a family has adopted us for Christmas. Here are just some ideas. If you throw your needs out there and seriously let your community and area church know, most of them would be glad to help. A lot of times they are looking for families to 'adopt' for Christmas. Also, someone told me that Salvation army does something like this too. I don't know if you have any places around you like these, but I know they will help. We are living proof that they help. Hang in there. I definitely know how rough it can be when $ is tight at Christmas. Been there, doing that. Best wishes.

There are lots of deals at places like Walgreens where you can buy tons of stuff for maybe $30. Try also the dollar store. You can also sign up at local agencies to get gifts that people are buying and donating. I wish I could help you, I am looking to donate some gifts to someone in need, I won a large sum of money in the past month and want to do something good with some of it.

your children are very young and don't even want much - unless they spend time in front of the teach-me-to-be-a-consumer machine (the tv.) my kids saw no commercials before age 6 or so, and so they never wanted anything for christmas. people would ask them and they would just think awhile and shrug.
so, make things with them/for them. make christmas crafts - smear glue all over pine cones and roll them in glitter, cut christmas tree shapes out of green construction paper and glue on decorations of paper or glitter. read them the christmas story, play with a creche with them.
check out thrift shops/consignment shops/yard sales for very cheap toys. they will not know they are used.
also, look into getting your kids on a secret santa list. call social services, toys for tots (local marines), or local mall or department store- they often do do 'christmas angel' events where someone will pick your family to give christmas gifts to.
call a church or two and ask if they have a recommendation for a christmas angel place.
i think more than anything at this age your children want to build traditions with you, not in things they get from you, but things they do with you.
it's the most wonderful time of the year...

yeah..try the dollar store, or five below. They have some good stuff. And definitely check with your local churches (a lot of them have toy drives). Check out craigslist also...I saw a few people on the website had advertised that they want to help out needy families for christmas (with trees, toys, dinner, etc.)

Pound/dollar shops are great for little things. and at that age, all they will be happy with is a big cardboard box. Get a couple from your local supermarket, and you'll have two very occupied children.
Remember, Christmas is about family, not toys...you don't need money to celebrate family :)

Maybe go to the dollar store and pick up a few items, at that age any wrapped gift will be a joy for them to open. They are so little yet the cost wont matter to them. You could also make them something from stuff you have at home.
Been there.

Kids this age only know what you teach them. They don't know what other kids are getting or doing at Christmas. Take this opportunity to teach them what Christmas is about. Teach them that gifts don't have to be things, it can be time spent together, etc. Who knows, maybe if you teach them about the Lord and live for the Lord, your prayers will be answered! It does happen!

I guess now would be the time to start teaching your children that it is not about the monitary gifts but about a spiritual connection and about family. I am not a religious person and I don't push the relgious aspect, but I do push the family being together. Can you make some inexpensive gifts together? what about baking cookies? Show them that it's about family - NOT what they get. Your are young enough for it to work.
