But he doesn't listen to me. What can I tell my husband?

I am making Halloween costumes for my kids I already have plans for all my others, but my 11 year old is being difficult. Doesn't like any of my ideas and can't think of any for herself. Can you think of anything for her?

Money isn't too big an issue. I can stitch some but not really sew (don't even have a machine)?
We enter contests every year so we don't use store bought ones.

The past few of years she has been a tooth fairy, Miss America, and Wendy Witch. She wants something to make her pretty but not a princess because it's too "childish" LOL.

I don't know why it was painful for me for so long after my first c-section to have sex, I felt a burning sensation. I don't want to have to wait that long this time, how long did you have to wait?

My 3 week old daughter is only happy if she's being held or being fed.

Is she too young to let cry for awhile, or is it true that some babies need more love than others?

My son is still wetting the bed at 8 years old. The main problem is all the evidence points to the suggestion that he is doing it while he is awake. Not asleep. I could understand if it was while he was asleep. We had him in pull ups and got rid of those, with the reasoning that it kinda excused him. He peed in bed but hey he was wearing a pull up so it was ok. We leave a light on at night so it isn't dark. For the last few weeks we have been making him do his own bed sheets and blankets. Washing them and remaking his bed. I don't neccesarily want to punish him for it as it is so hard to tell if he can actaully control it or not. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

My birthdaughter just turned 13 and I'm wondering how to communicate without seeming overbearing to her adoptive parents. Anyone in a similar situation or know what to do?

What do you think is the reason for high school labels? Do you ever feel responsible for the label your child has recieved in school? If you don't have teens--do you think your parenting will effect the label your child recieves? Why or why not?

I don't not believe in stereotypes or labels but the fact still remains--and has always been--in high school teens are labeled as something.

My wife and I are hoping to conceive our first child soon.

How can I prep for being a dad?

I have a career, money, a paid off house, two safe newer vehicles, etc.

I am not talking about prepping like that though, I guess I mean more emotional preparation.

I want to be the best father I can be (my wife already says I am the best husband already lol).

Any advice?

This is my second time asking a question on here--I hope I don't get torn apart. I saw a question about parental advisory CDs, asking if the mother should get them for her daughter. I understand people have concern but I don't understand why. I believe in free thinking and letting my kids express themselves. I have raised my children knowing that art (lyrics, poems, stories, and films) are not always based on real life and not to take them literally. Why should we hold our children back from the music they feel like listening to, whether that be, Marilyn Manson, Hillary Duff, Brittany Spears, Slipknot, SOAD, The Backstreet Boys, or John Lennon? Shouldn’t we be raising our children to be free thinkers and let them feel liberated by their own music choices?

use this excuse.

Well little johnny is getting interaction with other kids, I've even heard and seen it posted where people have said that children who stay at home with their mothers don't. Do they know how dumb that sounds?

I mean I laugh out loud to myself when I hear that garbage. Please. We have 2 playroups, we are involved in MOPS and my kids get plenty of interaction without them being in daycare.

I know everyone can't stay at home with their kids, but to assume that kids who stay at home with their mom or dad don't get interaction with other kids is absurd. Why do you think people say that all the time , the ones who use daycare?

THIS IS NOT A BATTLE of stay at home moms or dads vs working parents. this is a battle of assumptions

have a great day, i need to finish prepping dinner before naps are over! toodles

I've answered about three questions about this subject this morning. I've reversed the questions on asker and no one can give me an answer. So now, I've decided to ask my own "What would you do...spanking?” question and see the flip side.

Say you have two children. Alex who is five and Lily who is two. Alex continuously hits Lily, I’m talking over ten times. You have done everything you possibly think to do; time out, taking away privileges, taking away toys, longer time outs, a and whatever else you can possibly think to do. Why wouldn’t you spank Alex? If you didn’t spank him what would you else could you do?

Remember this is your last resort--you’ve tried everything you can think of…you’ve even came on Y!A to find other mothers opinions.

I don't know what to do with my son.He is 6 years old. When he does something bad,I spank him(sometimes harder). But while I beat him,he laughs! He smiles and laughs and tells me this is the most ridiculous way of punishment he has ever seen.I hit him harder and I'm even afraid not to harm him(to break a bone or something) but it seems he doesn't make any notice of beating. What should I do?

You have a son(Alex) age 5 and a daughter(Lilly) age 2.Imagine Alex has hit Lilly. What would you do?Spank him?Is this the best you can do?
When you hit the child,he thinks like this:
1."Older can hit younger. When I am older,I'll hit the others"(which is not very good for your grandchildren, right?).
2."People beat the others when they are angry. When I get angry,I'll hit the others."(I start tomorrow in kindergarten).
3."I'm a bad child and I'll never be better and people will never like me."(do you want your son to grow up thinking like this?)
4."I have to be more careful so mom/dad won't see me what am I doing"(I'll be good while I'm looked after).
Did you see "I won't hit my sister anymore"?Of course not!If the child had to be taught not to hit, that is rediculous way to teach him. What do you want to do when someone hurts you?How do you react when someone tries to control you?How do you feel when someone disappoints you?Do you think this approach will make you behave better?

In an effort to keep children safe, we were always told,
"Dont talk to strangers."
"Come straight home from school."

Then when kids are out with their parents, an adult walks up to speak to the 2 of them, and the child speaks.
The parent says its OK to answer.
This person is still a stranger because they havent been introduced, and so it must be OK to talk to strangers.

The child goes to school and a policeman comes to speak to the children. We tell children that they should consider a policeman their friend. Until that policeman has been introduced to the child by the parent, that policeman is still a stranger.

Children need clear information that does not vary.
They do not have the authority to make adult decisions.
It needs to be made very clear as to who they can and cannot speak to.
Perhaps parents should take the day off to meet all of their childs teacher and principal so that they can know who they are allowed to speak to.

Looks like melinda duckett is guiltier than ever(which is what i thought all along) she bought a gun from a pawn shop 2 days before her 2 yr old son trenton duckett disapperead,, then she killed herself last week with a different gun from her grandparents house. Who else thinks she is guilty? Even though my 2 kids drive me nutty, i would never dream of shooting them!!! she knew if she did not kill herself, she would end up in jail for a long time

between black people and white people? My daughter is 5 and right now she plays with, and talks to, the black kids at school, but I don't want to wait too long to tell her she can't play with them. I don't want her to get attached to black friends just to have to give them up. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a racist man, but we live in the south and people around here don't do that and I don't want my daughter having any trouble for mixing.
