I always get props for breastfeeding my daughter for 21 months, and for still going with my son who is 11 months old. As I see it, if you stay at home, and if you don't do drugs or have HIV, there's no excuse for not going a year. (And before I had kids I thought breastfeeding was abhorrent and swore I would never do it!) I'm just wondering, since the AAP says you should go at least a year, how many moms are still doing it and when do they usually quit?

I have a 5 month old and don't plan to start solids for another month. He only has 1 tooth and another coming. So, why on the La Leche League website would they list shredded chicken beans and chunked fruit as good first foods when the baby wouldn't be able to chew it? I was planning on continuing breastfeeding until he's 1 year and starting rice cereal @ 6months. When do you start on those others though, and would I just gradually give him pureed veggies and fruits? Please help with your motherly advice!!!! 1st time mom if you couldn't tell!!!

I am a breastfeeding mom... well this morning I woke up and noticed my left one of my breasts was feeling sore. So I thought to myself my breast is full I just need to let all the milk out. So I fed the baby on that breast and most of my breast felt soft like it usually does after I feed but the top part of my breast still felt sore and somewhat hard. So I decided to try to pump to see if more milk would come out or perhaps if it was a clogged milk duct. Sure enough I got some milk but still sore and tough on top part of breast. Now a few hours later I tried pumping it again while massaging it at the same time. Still nothing. I'm going to try to run some warm water over it. Could t be clogged ducts? Or something worse? PLease help me?

OK I know this is probably a pointless question, but here it goes...

My 9 month old is very independent and will not let me feed her, she HAS to do it herself. The problem is that she inevitable smothers it in her hair EVERY single time. She's on table food, but it still cakes her hair in goop and we have to give her a bath after every meal...not exactly easy to do. Is there ANYTHING I can do...please tell me someone has a bright idea!!

A friend of mine is giving us her Eddie Bauer car seat to use when our son is born, but it only has one base. I was hoping to find out the company so I can purchase an extra base.

I have a beautiful 1 wk old girl and we're getting the hang of bf at home. Im glad to know I am giving her the best, better than a powder formula or something else. However I know many people who either dont understand the benefits of bf or turn their nose up at it altogether. Leaving mee to look like an "old fashioned" mom if you will. Ive been told formula is easier, frees up the mom more allowing me to do things I "cant" while I bf- drink, go out and enjoy myself w/o worrying about the babys feeding schedule etc... not that their opinion will ever have me change my mind on what Im doing for my baby, but i can use the positive input from others
Where can I get a wealth of info on all things bf from support to info?

I'm nursing twins. I have them on their own breast. The one is going great but the other... I don't know what happened. Ever since her top teeth came in, they have been jagging across my nipple and cutting it open. The hole is the size of one of her teeth and the depth of it too. (About a 1/4 inch)!! She is 8 months old and by now, they refuse to take a bottle or sippy cup. I've also noticed when she goes to sleep, and starts to let go of the nipple, she relatches by biting it. I was told by my doctor to put breastmilk on it to kill bacteria and heal it faster but, she always wants to nurse. I don't know what to do.

And he is able of sleeping 6 hours a night, he's done it before.. he just doesnt want to.. i dont mind him sleeping with me, but i don't get much sleep either way, he kicks and grunts all night!!! My hubby likes the name Olivia, which I like as well but I prefer it as Alyvia (now that I showed him the spelling he likes that better as well)

Do you think Alyvia Ann works? Or Alyvia Marie? or Alyvia Ann Marie? (Ann is both our mothers middle name, as well as my grandmothers, and Marie is his grandmothers)

Thanks for your input! I understand spelling names differently can be confusing but I don't think this one is too out there, but im open to opinions

I just turned 19 years old. I got raped when I was 18 and became pregnant. I had planned on giving the baby up for adoption. But, once I had given birth to her, I couldn't imagine doing that. I loved her so much, and I knew I could provide a good life for her. So, instead of giving my precious daughter up for adoption, I kept her. Did I do the right thing?

Alright. So I bf my first and second for one year, my third for I believe 6-8 months. This one I am planning to bf also.
However, whenever I suggest not bf (even with my first two) I heard the whole "Well formula is too expensive." Or "How can you do that to the baby?" and the famous "If you don't bf your not a good mom -- if the baby is willing."

Now, I honestly want to bf this one for a little bit. I'm not sure how long. But this might sound horrible -- but I don't look forward to bf for 6 months or a year.

Even though this will be my fourth child, I still don't feel comfy feeding in public. And with two of my children, they didn't take from the bottle -- even if I pumped out fresh milk. However, if I don't bf I'm considered a "bad mom." What?
