i suggest lots of opportunities on his tummy. place enticing toys just out of his reach so that he'll try and get them. at 10 months, he shouldn't be able to resist. also, give him lots of opportunities to strengthen his legs...perhaps a jumper (replaced the classic walkers) these stay stationary and allows them to jump with support. every baby is different. i'm a stay at home mom who plays with her child everyday and she started crawling at 4 months...but i also worked day care for 4 years and every child develops differently...some babies will skip crawling all together and you might think they're late...but then they'll surprise you one day by skipping all the formalities and just start walking. just to set your mind at ease, many babies don't start walking till about 13 months..

While babies do develop at different rates, I would think that at ten month's the little one would, if not crawling, would be able to get up on its knees and rock back and forth. Also some babies have a different method of locomotion, some will bottom shuffle rather than crawl.
I would ask you are the other milestones being met? If so it might be a matter of time.
Is the infant overweight? That could slow him down. Does the child spend a lot of time restricted, in a bouncer or high chair so they don't get to learn to move? Has there been a prolonged period of illness which might have set him back?
I would ask your sister/brother to take the little one to the Maternal and Child Health Center to get a check up, and maybe a referral to a pediatrician, just for peace of mind..

Many babies don't start walking until they are older than a year, but most are crawling by 10 months. The first thing I would do is talk to his doctor about this to make sure there isn't anything to be worried about health wise. Then I'd get the little guy on the floor with toys just out of reach - he should squirm, kick, pull, roll, etc in order to get to those toys. Pretty soon he'll be off and "running".
Some babies do skip the crawling thing all together. I never crawled, but I did roll to get to the object of my heart's desire. Then one day I went from rolling to crusing (that walking while holding onto furniture thing).
One day soon he'll be walking and reaching things and you'll wish he was still scooting on his tummy!

My daughter is nine months and just started crawling. 9-10 months is average for crawling. A month or two before or after is still not unusual. I put my daughter on her fours and held her tummy up and then would make her rock. She thought it was silly. I walk with my daughter holding her hands because she wasn't going forward when crawling, and I think that helped her get the concept of leaning forward. Being around other children is helpful and having motivating toys just out of reaching distance is also helpful. Other than that, they just do it when they are ready.

my son is 8 months and shows no signs that hes going to crawl anytime soon. he sat early which may be the problem as he will only sit no and wont spend anytime laying on the floor rolling which helps children to crawl
there is no set time for any child to crawl or walk they are all so different as my daughter was crawling at 6 months so you cant compare
get down on the floor with your nephew with him on tummy and place toys out of reach so he has to move to get them, he will cry as he will be frustrated but dont give in , u need to encourage rolling in both directions, make sure he spends lots of time on the floor as possible and it will come to him when hes ready
my girlfriends son who is two now never crawled and walked when he was 15 months the only prob she had with this was he would easily get frustrated as he was stuck!!
good luck

I have a friend whose son didn't start crawling til he was a year. Just find a toy he really likes put him on his tummy and encourage him to crawl towards it. All babies are different and they develop in there own time.

This is perfectly normal...babies all do things differently, some excel quickly verbally, some physically and some mature very fast..in the end they all walk. That boy will be walking soon enough, and giving his Mommy a run for her money and you will feel sorry for her because he will exhaust her. And remember Mommy knows best..she knows what is best for her baby, so you can RELAX.

He should be scooting.... working his legs that he does move forward. Some babies never crawl. He should be pulling himself up to coffee tables and other furniture... maybe even what.s called cruising. (holding onto stuff and walking)
Here is a good website to track development and suggestions to help that development along

It's very sad his mum doesn't work with him. What an extreme shame for his life. Yes, by 10-11 months he ought to be doing something. Encourage him whenever you have him.

They don't consider him delayed untill he dosn't walk at 15 months, if he was born early it will take him longer and you don't have to encourage a child to do stuff like that when he wants to go some where he will, if he is not scooting or anything I would encourage her to get him evaluated, other wise just watch and wait he will get it
