Sanitize? So how were you gonna wash your baby's new clothes probably laundry detergent right? Remember If you want you child to have an immune system you may want to expose them to stuff I'm not saying toss your baby in a septic tank. But you have to allow them some exposure to Bacteria it helps their immune system to practice.

I'm using second-hand baby clothes with my little girl and haven't encountered any problems. The clothes were washed before being given to me, and then I washed them a second time in baby detergent just to make sure. I know it's easy to get overly worried about germs and stuff with a new baby, but honestly, I think the chances of catching anything from used clothes is very, very tiny. Most germs can't live on dry surfaces anyway, so as long as clothes aren't left damp, not much can grow on them.

Any clothes that are clean and serviceable are perfectly safe for your baby. If you want to make especially sure, soak the clothes in a nappy wash solution, which sanitizes as well as cleans, ands air dry in sunshine if possible.
My children have worn second hand clothes and I have always washed them before they wore them, not because they weren't clean, but because my children had problems with certain washing powders/conditioners and washing them again removed those from the clothes.
The little ones grow so fast, changing up to to 4 - 6 sizes in the first year alone, so it doesn't make sense not to utilize the gift of second hand clothes, if just for economic reasons. Not to mention that it is environmentally sound to do so - that's recycling!.

Its fine to use Tide or Gain. I use tide and put the washer on extra rinse. My baby hasn't had any problem with it. If you don't have an option on your washer like that then just don't use as much as you use on your clothes. It makes no sense to buy baby detergent cuz when you hold the baby so it will be up against your clothes. You can also just buy fragrance free detergent if you want rather than buying that expensive baby detergent.

I am 36 weeks pregnant and i can honestly say that 75% of my baby's clothes are used. Either given to me or bought at a yard sale. What i did was washed everything twice in ALL baby detergent(its much cheaper than draft and does the same thing). The way i see it is you can never protect 100% from all germs just do the best you can. If you use bleach to clean the whited make sure you rewash them with detergent only.......................Good luck!!!!!

The only thing that they say to be weary of is sleep wear because after so many washings the fire retardent quality goes away (only sleepwear has this fire retrdent quality though). As far as other clothes washs them with an unscented laundry detergent and they will be fine... By the way, fabric softeners also eliminate fire resistance in sleepwear. Definately not dangerous to use though!

Just throw them in the washing machine like everything else. No need to do anything fancy. And please don't be one of the germ freaks that keep the baby in a bubble and have to boil every toy that gets dropped on the ground. More and more studies are coming out that say by NOT exposing babies to germs is weakening their immune system.....Babys are resilliant little creatures.

Wash them. She won't catch anything. Germs don't hang on to laundered clothing. (That's why people are told to wash their hands, too. Germs will wash off.)

Used clothing is great for baby. They outgrow things so fast.
