OK I know this is probably a pointless question, but here it goes...
My 9 month old is very independent and will not let me feed her, she HAS to do it herself. The problem is that she inevitable smothers it in her hair EVERY single time. She's on table food, but it still cakes her hair in goop and we have to give her a bath after every meal...not exactly easy to do. Is there ANYTHING I can do...please tell me someone has a bright idea!!

I'm not sure if she'll keep a shower cap on, but at this point it won't hurt to try!

i nkow i will probably get dogged for this but ... when my son was that age, he did the same thing - like he *had* to smear it onhis head before he could eat. Instead of trying to fight it, I just went along with it, and after he was done eating, I'd put him in the kitchen sink and spray him off with the sprayer attachment.
My advice? keep a camera close and enjoy your baby while she's young.

Put a shower cap on her head before each meal. Maybe the swim caps. Although, she may be able to get them off. Maybe an infant hat, those fit fairly tightly (especially on a 9 month old).

You could possibly try putting a hat on her if she will wear it.. Or you could start giving her a spoon to use. My daughter threw fits when I would try to feed her......so I started putting food on the spoon then setting the spoon on the table for her to pick up. It was alot more time consuming, but alot easier in the end. She just turned one and can feed herself with utensils, so it might be worth it to try that! Good luck!

Try food that isn't so messy! and the bandanna and shower cap sounds like a good idea! my baby is 19 months old and still rubs food in his hair! lol good luck!

that's very good that she wants to feed herself but i definately sympathize with the whole having to give her a bath afterwards. what about putting a bandana around her hair or maybe a shower cap...it may not be cute but it'll keep ffrom having to do the bath thing. just a suggestion.

You can try some of the following
1. Give her a fork with the food on it (works reasonably with my baby)
2. Try to get her eat things that are not that messy and come in pieces

Showercap? An old hat? Something to protect her hair. There's no way to make a 9 mo old eat neater. This season will pass, but until then try and find something to protect her hair so at least you don't have to bathe her!

Leave this one alone. It's a very important part of her development. Instead of giving her a full bath each time, just wipe her down. If this is your biggest concern, you've got it easy. Just enjoy it and let her do the same.

Let her be. Either put old clothes on her that you don't care if they get stained or leave her bare and place something under her highchair and let her explore. In the mix of the mess, she's also learning textures and colors.

try to make a game of it...but keep in mind all babies go through that phase, they want to be like you, they want to be little people too! as for the messiness...its best to bathe them every night anyhow let her have fun, shes learning.
