Ways of determining a baby's weight before birth are not that reliable. With my last pregnancy, I had an ultrasound every week beginning at 32 weeks because I was a high risk pregnancy (38 years old with Gestational Diabetes). 3 weeks before she was born (I was 38 weeks) the ultrasound technician told me she weighed about 7 1/2 pounds and would probably weigh close to 8 pounds at birth. I went one week past my due date before she was born and she only weighed 6 pounds 14 ounces. A preemie is generally considered a baby born before 37 weeks and is under 5 1/2 pounds. Those last few weeks of pregnancy can be very uncomfortable and you don't know how you'll go on another day since there just isn't any more room inside you for the baby anymore. Somehow you'll make it through the next few weeks despite the discomfort, weird twinges, funny pains, and a LOT of peeing.

oh yes i think babies r consider preemies until 36 or 37 weeks
if ur baby was born now it would definatley be in preemie clothes i know that my sister in law just had a baby 4 days ago and the baby weighed 6 pounds even and was 19 inches and only fits in preeemie diapers and clothes
but yes ur baby would be a preemie dont try to get the baby out this early its way to dangerous the lungs arent developed yet
big babies are just fine too i had a 11pound baby and its ok if u have big babies i would rather the baby be big than to small and not developed enough ya know
best of luck
they will induce at 38 weeks if the baby gets too big dont worry
if u go full term(40 weeks) the baby may be 11 pounds too just make sure to have 3-6 month clothes cuz the baby will go right into them and size 1 diapers

Ultrasound is VERY innaccurate at estimating fetal size. It means nothing. And, at any rate, even if it's accurate, it doesn't mean you'll have a huge baby. Average weight gain during the last few weeks is about 5-8 ounces a week. So... in the next 6 weeks baby will probably gain around 2-3 pounds ... and end up around 9 pounds -- not a problem. If you can push out an 8 pound baby, you can push out a 9 pound one.

Yes, a baby at 34 weeks is considered a preemie. My son was born at 35 weeks and he's considered a preemie.

anything before 37 weeks is considered premie. No matter what the weight is. I had my second son at 35 weeks and he was 6lbs 15 oz :) and my first son was born at 36 weeks and he was 6lbs 10oz. The lungs are the most important thing, and usually they arent developed until 36-37 weeks. My 35 weeker was in the nicu for about 2-3 weeks. and my 36 weeker was able to go home when i did. So try to get two more weeks in but if you dont make it that long. Your baby will be just fine :)

Pretty much anything before 40 weeks is considered preemie. You could also go sooner than your due date. Has your doctor said anything to you about gestational diabetes? I know one girl that was pregnant and her baby gained weight fast and she had to go early because she developed gestational diabetes.
And by the way, my daughter was considered a preemie, I had her 4 weeks early according to my doctor (had to be induced due to pre-eclampsia) but she was perfect and I think she was born right on time, she weighed 7lbs. 9 oz. at 36 weeks. Good Luck!

any baby born before 37 weeks is preemie. If mine had been born one day sooner, she'd have been preemie. And she only weighed five pounds, but like most 37 weekers her lungs were developed, that's the key. She was considered term because of the extra day.

Any baby born before 37 weeks gestation is considered a preemie. Weight has nothing to do with it.

I believe any baby born under 5lbs is considered a preemie. I have also been told by a couple of people that were told they were having big babies (via an ultrasound even) and ended up having babies under 6lbs. I don't know how the doctor's estimate the babies weight.
