It's true, there's not much you can do. Researchers don't even know what colic is exactly. Some believe colic is caused by gas...others believe that gas is caused by colic (due to swallowing air while crying). Whatever it is, it's not fun for you and baby. My daughter was colic. I switched her to Avent bottles and it seemed to help a little bit. Some kids like being in their carseats on top of a running washing machine while others like to be swaddled tightly with continuous butt-tapping. You're just going to have to find that one thing that calms her/him down and try to ride it out. I'm sorry for the both of you and good luck!

The best way to get rid of colic in a baby is too let the baby burp by pressing his tummy, there is less colic when breastfeeding than bottle feeding.Mom should avoid gas forming food to avoid colic for his baby.

Have a couple of stiff ones every evening for four months. There is still no explanation for what colic really is, though it's pretty certain it is NOT gas or stomach upset in the vast majority. In days past, children were given opium (in the form of paregoric) but that's fallen out of favor, without an effective replacement.

Contrary to popular belief over the counter "colic" cures (mylicon drops, etc) are useless & do absolutely nothing to help your baby. You can try Humphreys 3 which is holistic & won't harm your baby. Colic in babies is much like cramps in women, they come & then they are gone. Put your baby in a comfortable position for them & when they are crying with severe colic, rock them gently & sing to them to distract (yes, distract-babies are smarter than you think) them from the pain. You are probably not breast-feeding since this eases babies colic so you may try switching your baby's formula to enfamil lipil or isomil soy or similac for colicky babies. Be patient, understanding & above all -----loving:-)

I can feel your pain. My son( now 5 months old) was colic and I gave him gripe water. Actually I got the Gentle Naturals brand and they call it tummy soother but it's the same as gripe water. It saved me. You might not get an instant response but keep giving it to him/her. It took two days for it to work for me. I gave it to him everyday for a couple months. He's over the colic now though. Good Luck and best wishes.

They have a medication that you can buy over the counter called Mylicon which helps . Also make sure you always burp your baby when feeding try to get at least 2 burps during the feeding and always make sure you burp at the end of the feeding. Improper burping is what causes colic

I believe most babies outgrow colic by their third month, however I recommend getting a hold of "Dunstan Baby Language" DVD it has helped me a lot with my 10 week old baby. (I know exactly what he needs when he cries now). I also recommend "Babies Tum-Ease" it's an all natural glycerite and alcohol free and you can get it at Whole Foods. God Bless!
