I'm not making any statement about breastfeeding. How you feed your child is up to you.
The Nestle story is making news again and its not just business, its bad business that kills human beings. it's against the law and continues to happen.
I do try and buy fair trade clothes and UK made clothes but, like you mention, it is difficult. People need to be made aware that it happens so they can vote with their feet and buy the right products.

Well that's a lovely website but where is the actuall proof they did this? Newspaper articles, etc.
And if it is true well welcome to business. Are you still driving a car or have you boycotted the gas companies becaues theor gouging us? Do you research all your purchases like clothes to make sure they weren't made in sweatshops or in coutries that support human trafficking?
There are a lot of woman in Africa who shouldn't be breastfeeding because of HIV/Aids.
My daughter was formula fed for medical reasons-she's fine.

this was going on between 1980 and 1984. it has stopped. yes breastfeeding is best and most mothers should at least try it but there are some that medically or physically simply cannot. those babies grow up to be just as healthy as the nursed ones. i know i am one of them as well as my 2 sisters and brother. i have an 8 month old who i am just starting to wean. i use enfamil but looked into nestle because of cost. anyway next time do a little more research before you post such a question. oh and i think you meant " how bad Nestle WAS" not "ARE".

Wow, I used that in an article for a womens studies class 13 years ago from the 1977 data! Interesting that its still out there. They're not the only ones though.

I feel, as another poster stated, that it's important to have the backup research from an unbiased source before believing what you see on the internet. Sometimes proponents of one thing slant a story and use it for their own interests. Not saying that this is definitely the case here but IF nestle did this then there should be something more definitive to go on.
I breastfed my daughter for about a month but had to stop because of medical reasons. We tried several formulas from the most expensive nutramegin to soy to similac...the one that was most gentle on her little belly was the goodstart and she really thrives on it. To us it had nothing to do with cost and DID have to do with making a decision that was best for our baby.

I am sorry to all you moms out there that feel breastfeeding is best.....it is not necessarily the best!! Yes, in 3rd world countries it maybe, but then again it may not be...you wonder how come many babies have diseases like aids...well its from their mother...A mother living there is also aware of the water sanitation situation...and you can always save the free samples for if and when you can no longer breast feed... I did not see anything linking proof to this article..not that i do not believe it, but if you can only afford nestle and your child is accustome to it you should not have to change...b/c of some 20 yr old article!!

Nestle is pretty bad. I never breast fed, but I intentionally never used Good Start. I started with Enfamil, but it didn't agree with my daughter so I switched around a few times until I got to the one she likes, Isomil. But NEVER once was Good Start in my little girl's bottle.

Sometimes I think people just want to buy what is cheapest for their kids so that they don't have to pay out all that extra money on formula that is good for them. My son was on Enfamil and my daughter is on Similac. We didn't even try the Nestle

Nestle is EVIL. They have NOT changed their practices and routinely violate the WHO code against formula advertising.

I do... my friend told me about it last year.
I was appalled like you.
The link below tells how Nestle used to campaign that when breastmilk fails, try our formula !!! How absurd!
