My daughter was born prematurely about 4 weeks ago and I have been pumping breast-milk almost everyday since then. I recently got on a good schedule of pumping about every 2-3 hours. A few days ago I noticed that my milk supply was decreasing even though I was increasing my pumping sessions. This morning to my absolute horror, I have pumped no breast-milk out of one breast and only literally a drop out of the other. Does anyone have any suggestions about why this terrible thing may have happened to me? I feel so bad and embarrassed about this. I am going to speak with a lactation counselor ASAP, but until then I just want to know if anyone has any advice or something like that. Thanks!

For a family living in a southern good-sized city where a 3BR 2BA house is around $150,000, how much money per month would a baby add to our spendings?

I keep a gallon of water on the counter for my baby. (I think its better for it to be room temp for her... but I digress....) So, this morning I spotted my roommate drinking directly out of it. I was so shocked and grossed out, I didn't say anything. I don't even know if she knows I saw. I don't share things with my baby, and I don't really want other people to either. I'm not really a germ-a-phobe (sp?), but, she's 14 months old, and I like to keep her as healthy and disease-free as I can. What exactly would you do in this situation? I would like to go about it in a tactful way, but still get my point across. What if she's been doing this all along? Gross...

I have been told by a friend that I should take my 10 month old off her formula during her cold because she is quite congested. Has anyone else heard of this? I can't get her to drink anything else except corn syrup mixed with water. Is this sufficient for a few days till she gets over it?

He has always been very good natured, but recently has started randomly freaking out on us... I don't see any bubbles on his gums where he could be possibly cutting teeth. His fits consist of screaming wildly (combined w/ some crying), kicking and punching. He'll calm down for a few seconds until something sets him off again... it can be a whisper, a jolt - anything will set him off again. Right now he's in his crib screaming at the top of his lungs... I guess I'll just let him cry it out. AGAIN.

hi everyone, i had my baby 7 weeks ago. i gained a bit of weight while pregnant (40 lbs) and i was already overweight when i got pregnant with her. well anyway, ive been to my postpartum doctor visit, everything inside is good now. and well ive started an exercising thing and watching what i eat. i exercise a bit everyday. going on a walk with the kids in their stroller adn also 30 minutes or so on my gazelle. well i eat well, such as fruits and vegetables (i love salads) and whole grains. well ive lost about 8lbs in a week. i am not starving myself. i eat enough (at least i feel full) 3 good meals and at least 2 snacks. im breastfeeding my baby adn i read that losing that much is bad. but i dont think shes eating less. not that ive noticed yet. does anyone have an opinion or know if i should do something. i cannot go to a doctor as i have no insurance. i still have my hospital bills because my insurance isnt fixed yet. thanks for any advice/help

The spot is directly in the back of his head and has been there since he was about 7 weeks old. It started to peel and the doctor told us to put cortizon cream on it. He said it was a pressure spot and as he held his head up more it would go away. It is still there and he is 4 months old. Now he is telling us to stop the cream and leave it alone because it is a birth mark. I looked it up in all the books I have and tried to look it up on the internet but can't find a direct answer anywhere. Has anyone ever had this problem? No one I know can tell me what it truely is. Thank You.

I had my son very prematurely on October 25. I pumped for the 3 months he was in the hospital, and when we got him home he never could latch because he was bottle fed in the hospital. I was tired and overwhelmed and my milk soon diminished. I quit pumping in late January. Now when I squeeze my nipples I can get tiny droplets of milk, and I am rethinking my decision to stop pumping. I am also thinking that now my son is stronger perhaps he can be trained to latch on?
What are my chances at taking another shot at breastfeeding? At worst, I am hoping to pump again and at least supplement his formula with pumped breastmilk.
Anyone with similar situations or expertise in this area please let me know what you think.
Thanks!

My daughters pediatrcian said that we can start experimenting with baby food and that eventually she should be on a schedual where she eats breakfast lunch and dinner. My question is how much cereal, or baby food should i be feeding her, and when she is on more of a schedual should she drink a full bottle with her breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Right now she drinks a 6oz bottle and i thought that food plus a 6oz bottle is an awful lot. This is my first baby and alot of times i feel like i'm just winging it so any help would be very much appreciated.

He usually sleeps for a 4-5 hour period (sometimes a little longer) then he wakes and sometimes I can pat his butt and get him back to sleep for another hour or so. More often though he ends up crying and I give him a bottle and back to sleep he goes for another 3-4 hours. He won't seem to eat more than 4-5 oz at a time unless he is really hungry and MIGHT eat 6. The pediatrician stated at his visit on Monday that at this age he should be able to go 6-7 hours at one time at night without eating and to try to wean him from his night feeding. Any ideas on how to do that?

My daughter is 6 months old on Saturday, and more than satisfied with her milk. She sleeps through the night, is bang on average in weight and always has been. She was born at 41 weeks so wasn't premature.

I'm keen to avoid the puree and mashing stages and progress straight to a more age appropriate baby led weaning method.

I find it hard to believe that magically on Saturday she will need solid food overnight. Do I HAVE to start weaning or can I wait until she seems ready?

Thanks in advance.

I have been nursing my 5.5 monyth baby for a while now. I tried to pump with the Medela hand pump and got only 3 oz out total. My heart cried out to see that. My mom said all the stress with work is causing it. I freelance so have quit for now. I intended to BF for a year initially but the chances seem very slim and its making me sad. Last one week shes been consuming more formula. I never really had a electric pump since had an home office and would feed my baby when she needed me. Maybe I also thought they were expensive(darn) so didnt buy one hence saving some money.
Am wondering how do i increase my supply.
1. My options are nursing nursing till I drop dead.....but how do you do it if your breasts feel very dry...like taking a nursing vacation
2. Renting an electric pump...
3. Buying an electric pump to exercise my breasts ( is it worth investing in this late)
Ladies if you went through this please please advice. It would be nice to hear from someone who actually went through it.

I just started a new job and much to my surprise the woman sitting next to me brings her baby to work. At first I thought it was a one time or occasional thing. You know could not get day care for that day etc. However, now I can see that it is a daily thing. The baby cries and gives me a headache. Worse yet when I am on the phone my customers can hear the baby crying. What can I do about this?

One of my inlaws family members has a baby who I met at a birthday party. The baby is 5 and a half months. His mother made him a bottle and he wouldn't eat it, two hours later (same bottle I was concerned it had gone bad) I asked what kinf od formula it was and she said soy because he is allergic to regular formula. Another hour passes so she goes and gets some custard and feeds it to him, she told me he does not like any fruits or veegtables or rice only sweet things. She even tried putting salt on his food but he won't take it. He had a few spoonfulls then she gets some dairy queen icecream cake and feeds the icream and fudge to him. She says he loves icecream, chocolate, and even pepsi! Some people at the party saw him eating the cake and told me to give my daughter some, I told them she was "allergic" I was trying to be polite. A few minutes later he spits up the cake, still doesn't eat anything and he did not sleep the entire time, he hadn't slept since he woke up.
