He has always been very good natured, but recently has started randomly freaking out on us... I don't see any bubbles on his gums where he could be possibly cutting teeth. His fits consist of screaming wildly (combined w/ some crying), kicking and punching. He'll calm down for a few seconds until something sets him off again... it can be a whisper, a jolt - anything will set him off again. Right now he's in his crib screaming at the top of his lungs... I guess I'll just let him cry it out. AGAIN.

first thought was tape him down - Knowing that is completely wrong - My wife an I raised several children - some had obnoxious personalities in the early years. For the most part we always rewarded good behavior to the point that we were tune into it. Bad behavior at a market - we scooped them right up - no use bothering others- and we went home. We did this at any public arena. Sitting in a corner was a big one of my wife's favorite choices.
I think the only time we would have spanked a kid was if a life threatening event was occurring - playing with electrical items - running into the street playing with knives or other tools that had a good chance of hurting them. If the children performed a fit - we would ignore them briefly and then my wife found a corner I for the most part would just let them air out their frustration and ignore the noise. Today we have well adjusted adults for children.

He may be teething or he may have some trapped gas in his belly. Teething takes a long time and you normally won't see anything on his gums until a 2-4 weeks before they finally erupt. Based on his age, I would say he is definitely teething and would certainly account for his tantrums. Talk to his doctor to rule out anything else.

I would take him to the doctor to make sure his gums aren't swollen at all or he doesn't have an ear infection.

I would go get him looked at, that doesn't seem right to me, he could be having a lot of pain or anything.
that is the only way he knows to express himself.
