It just depends on the baby his/herself...

They should have had their first stool-- meconium and pass urine, but both of those are usually simple and happen right away.

Their vital signs, including and importantly, their body temperature need to stay stable...

They need to be eating well, whether that be by bottle/formula or by breast feeding...

Also if it's a boy and he needs a circumsion, then they need to be monitored for a few hours after the procedure and make sure he passes urine after as well...

Even babies with complications right at delivery, i.e. low apgar scores, or needing oxygen for a few mins. after...DOES NOT mean they will have to stay in the hospital longer...

Babies who are born "normal" and healthy (with an APGAR of 8 or more) are able to go home right away (depending on hospital policy). Babies who have lower APGAR scores, who were born early, who have breathing issues (apnea etc) or who had a difficult birth are typically kept until the problem can be resolved or until the staff is sure the baby is doing good and there will be no problems for mom at home. Hospital policies usually dictate that moms can be released two days after birth with the doctor's order. Preemies usually have to be off of oxygen for two days and be gaining weight before they can go home (and they usually need to be above 5lbs). Your baby doesn't have to pass any tests, they will send you home when they know that the baby is doing fine. Best wishes.

Well it all depends how the mother and baby is doing. If you have a boy and get him circumcised they make you wait for a bit to see if the baby has a wet diaper. And they come back and forth to check the babys temp and mothers and they do your blood preasure and if they feel like your fine and the then they let you go home but before you leave they have a nurse go through your discharge make sure you understand everything.

This also depends on the mother... I had a c-section and I went in on thursday and left sunday... they told me if i hadn't had a c-section i could have already gone home b/c my baby was healthy!! but they will make sure your baby doesnt have jaundace, is breathing well, ect... they just want everything to be ok so dont worry!!

It depends on your baby's weight, oxygen levels, test results and a myriad of other factors. As long as the baby's tests come out ok, and he/she is maintaining a normal body temperature, eating satisfactorily, and having normal bodily functions(ie: poop & pee), they get to go home in 24-48 hours. My daughter stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks, but she was premature.

My healthy, intact, children were able to go home as soon as the pediatrician saw them.

The only thing they had to undergo were two shots, a blood draw through the foot, and being weighed/measured. The rest of the time was pain free, and secure in my hospital room (as it should be!)

Other than health and weight and everything looking peachy, the only thing required as far as performance goes is learn to latch on. Of course if you are not breastfeeding (which I would urge you to do), then it won't matter. But usually they will discourage you from leaving if you are breastfeeding if you and/or the baby are having trouble with it.

It depends on the labor, the APGAR scores, if you child has any illnesses or needed oxygen, etc. etc. There are MANY factors that play into how soon the baby can leave the hospital.

it also depends on what time of day you had your child. And if your boy is circumcised. My son was circumcised and I was there for 24 hours and my son just had to have a wet diaper after he was circumcised. the girl that was in there a day before me had to wait alil longer. She had twins a day before i had my son and was in there till the day after i left.Cause one of the twins had to gain alil more.It differnet from child to child.

The only requirement I had with my HEALTHY baby is for him to pee after his circumcision.
