Newborn & Baby - January 2007

Our 10 month old daughter was in the hospital over the weekend for the stomach flu/gastroenteris. She went in last Friday evening violently throwing up. She got admitted and stayed through the whole weekend just for the purpose of hydrating her. They did tons of tests on her, and nothing came back really abnormal, other than the fact that they know it was a virus.

She has not showed much interest in eating much of anything since she was discharged and it is worrying us. We even took her to the pedi yesterday who said that she is not dehydrated and it could take 7 days to get over, which would be tomorrow. She has still vomited probably once or twice a day after her bottle. She refuses to even open her mouth for pedialyte. She WILL take an oz. or two of formula every few hours, but that's it. This baby doesn't look sick, is still laughing, smiling, etc, but just extremely weak. I feel it's not normal, but pedi doesn't seem concerned at all. I'm worried so much!

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have tried both and which one they liked better for their little one? I am using Enfamil now, but a friend of mine is using the Similac, and while I was babysitting her 7 month old, I noticed that the Similac mixed and smelled alot better than the Enfamil, more like a milk based formula. Also, the Enfamil leaves a strange film in the bottle, and the Similac doesnt. Any opinions out there would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I breast feed and give my son formula and it seem like he's still hungry, durning the day I breast feed and 1 bottle when we go out and when it's bedtime I give him 4 to 5 oz of "Similac Advance Formula" and he sleeps for about three hours then wake up crying because he's hungry. So I get him up give Caleb the bottle and after he's finish with that he makes his hunger noise (which I think is so cute) and then I have to breast feed. My baby then is stuffed, want to laugh for about 15 mins, burp a couple of times then he is out again.
I talked with my step-mom and she suggested that I give him "Rice Cereal" (teaspoon full) in his formula at night and he will sleep through out the night. Now you all know how our parents are old school, so that's why I reach out to you all for your advice.

My 3 month old daughter has a submuccosal cleft palate and we feed her using a Medela Haberman Feeder. The teats are incredibly expensive. I have found them for about $14.99+, but I am wondering if anyone knows where to find them cheaper?

He thinks there's some kind of timeframe after birth where if you don't want the baby, you can "return it"; you can take it to a fire station/police station...give it to the hospital, all free and clear. This doesn't sound legal to me. I'm fairly sure there has to be some kind of paper work involved, right?

My baby is ten months old and still not trying to crawl. He was a month early so he is suppose to be about two months behind in development. Could he just be lazy or should I be concerned?

OK - my son is 8 months old and has been a very good eater up until about 2 weeks ago. He weighs a healthy 23lbs! He use to eat an entire 6 oz bottle followed by a jar of baby food every 4 hours. He had an ear infection with a bad cold, which was when he stopped eating - but both of these have cleared up. Now he doesn't want to eat much of anything except his bottle. Is this a stage? My DR isn't concerned but it just isn't right that he is eating so little. He IS getting his first tooth, could this be the culprit? Any suggestions?

Just as the eyelids protect the eyes, the foreskin protects the glans and keeps its surface soft, moist, and sensitive. It also maintains optimal warmth, pH balance, and cleanliness. The glans itself contains no sebaceous glands -- glands that produce the sebum, or oil, that moisturizes our skin.11 The foreskin produces the sebum that maintains proper health the surface of the glans.

The mucous membranes that line all body orifices are the body's first line of immunological defense. Glands in the foreskin produce antibacterial and antiviral proteins such as lysozyme.12 Lysozyme is also found in tears and mother's milk. Specialized epithelial Langerhans cells, an immune system component, abound in the foreskin's outer surface.13 Plasma cells in the foreskin's mucosal lining secrete immunoglobulins, antibodies that defend against infection.

There are countless benefits to having foreskin. So I just don't understand why people still do it to their sons??

My 15 month old used to eat like a horse. She (yes, she) would eat so much food I didn't know where it all went (she has never been large, in fact stayed generally pretty skinny).

She just recently stopped eating, only taking a few bites at a time. My mother came over the other day and said that she felt lighter.

Should I be worried that she is losing weight and not eating as much at this stage? How can I get her to eat more?

Help! I live in Germany, and my 4 month old and I just returned from a trip to Oregon. I have over come my jet lag just fine. But, my baby has it bad! She used to sleep all night long before we left for the trip. She adjusted to the time change just fine while we were in Oregon. But now that we are back she will not sleep at all durring the night. It is making it very hard on me. My husband is deployed to Iraq and I have no family or friends who can help. So I am forced to be awake with the baby all night too. When it comes sunrise I am in dire need to sleep too. Any suggestions?
