The best cream that I know of is Mimyx Cream. I use it to treat my excessive dry skin. You need Dr. prescription for it and if you don't have insurance coverage then 140g tube will cost you $65.00

You really dont need to do anything special to prepare for the suction of death...i gotta say, having them pierced HAS to be more painful than a tiny baby and it's vaccuum action mouth. As for the flakiness....I am concerned that this could be a yeast infection...it sounds weird but skin can be subjected to an overgrowth of yeast. Are they itchy? have they changed color and its now lighter - pinker? Is this a huge change or is it just the first time you have really looked at your nipples in a while? A little dry skin in the winter can be dismissed, watch for other signs of yeast...itchy, flaky, red or pink nipples....bright color....and ask your doc or midwife next appt. If it is yeast, you can get a prescription cream that will clear it up in a day or two...if its just dry skin...leave it alone.

Try Bag Balm its in a square green can. You can find it at Wal_Mart.
Its for soothing chapped skin, small scrapes and cuts.
It doesn't have the greatest of smell but you only use a very small amount on your nipples and then put your bra on to prevent it from rubbing off onto your shirt. Its about $6 dollars a can and will last you forever. WORKS MIRACLES! My dad had severe dry hands and feet (put socks on after you put it on your feet)in till he started using Bag Balm. And don't laugh but my grandpa was a farmer and in the winter he would put it on the utters of his milking cows when they had chapped or dry nipples...lol It works....

your nipple rings have nothing to do with it I had the same thing when I was pregnant of my son ..

Take a warm bath when you get out BEFORE drying off massage your breasts with baby oil dab yourself dry and if you use a bra put some vaseline then your bra it will make you soft and smooth and get rid of all the flakes and cracks no need to buy expensive crap save it for after the baby is born and you see what Really Cracked means!!

Just go to you chemist or supermarket and get a nipple cream (one that breastfeeding mums use). Make sure that it is lanolin based. Use this a couple of times a day and they should be right in no time.

Just relax and take it easy. Usually they give you this lanolin in the hospital and nursing hurts only first couple of days. Actually it shouldn't hurt at all if the baby latches on right.
After you give birth talk to the lactation consultant, they usually come to you next day after delivery. If your hospital doesn't provide this service, ask someone experienced to guide you how to do it right.
Take care. Good luck.

Use nipple stimulation to prepare them. Express some colostrum to give the nipples moisture. Or, try Medela's nipple cream.

Have you tried Gold Bond Ultimate? This is a good lotion for healing dry skin. I'm not breast feeding, but is does a great job for dry skin. Watch out! You might be rubbing it in for a while. It feels very good. To add: DO NOT use Neosporin. Not good with open wounds.

well, vaseline is greasy and can be used unless you are already breast feeding. I was told to make my nipples "tuff" by twisting and tugging at them while I was preggers. I guess even that didn't prepare me for how they would feel the day my daughter tried to cut her teeth on them.

Yes yes yes. Honestly the best thing to use and I know from experience is Neosporin! or even the off brand of it. It kills and infection or bacteria and heals. Plus its cheap. Works great!
