Give her nipple olive oil (for food) around before and after breast feeding. It is save actually...After taking a bath, ask her to clean her nipples using baby oil.

The best source is going to La Leche League. They are a breastfeeding support group that provides free advice (and are backed up but a internationally recognized medical advisory board). I have attached a link to an article on nipple pain.

Moist, warm compresses will help followed by air drying. Many recommend a modified lanolin ointment (UNLESS you have an allergy or sensitivity to wool - lanolin is a product from sheep)

There is an oil called LANOLIN OIL. It is specifically for cracked, dried out nipples. It is safe to put on nipples before you breastfeed your baby. Everytime you breastfeed, put i little of this oil on the entire nipple and it will prevent it from drying out and eventually cracking.

There are many creams available for sore or cracked nipples from breatfeeding at any local drug store. They are baby-friendly and will not give the baby a bad taste.

Tell her that after *every* feeding (even in between if she can) to apply a generous amout of nipple cream. Lansinoh is a brand you can find most places, but I much preferred Motherlove nipple cream. Lansinoh is so thick and sticky and you can never get it off your fingers. Motherlove is much smoother and almost melts in your fingers -- it's the best. I got it at Whole Foods, but if there isn't one near you, you can order from Motherlove online -- link below.

The important thing is to apply it EVERY time, and it will help tremendously.

Lanolin works really well. When I had my baby I completely lost all of the skin on my left nipple. I used a lot of lanolin (it doesn't have to be washed off) and I just pumped from that breast.

use a and d ointment after each time you feed the baby and you won't be having this problem. Make sure to clean each nipple before allowing the baby to feed.
