My 3 month old daughter has a submuccosal cleft palate and we feed her using a Medela Haberman Feeder. The teats are incredibly expensive. I have found them for about $14.99+, but I am wondering if anyone knows where to find them cheaper?

Definitely check with your craniofacial team, or plastic surgeon. Our pediatrician was able to get us a box of Mead Johnson bottles, and our Children's hospital got us both kinds. Check to see if you qualify for any services (in Ohio we have BCMH and WIC, etc.) - sometimes you can get bottles through them. Contact Debbie at Cleft Advocate - www.cleftadvocate.org - often she will have bottles donated by families who no longer need them. I have seen them on eBay as well. Lastly - check with your insurance - see if they will consider them "medical necessities" and then they can cover the cost. (You might even want to join cA - great group, very helpful!)

Good luck and congrats on the birth of your daughter!

My daughter was born with a cleft also. And don't worry after her surgery you won't even notice neither will others! My baby didn't need the special bottle so I googled to see what the medela pump was. Once I seen it I remembered it from the Hospital. So I wonder if the children's hospital would give you some. Call and say you can't find them and it will take six weeks for the web site to deliver and the teat is broke and your son is starving! I bet they will give you a couple. they keep them on hand. If they say no then call the maternaty ward were you had her and sell the same sad story someone should just give them to you! My E-mail is veiwable if you want to chat about my experices with stares, questions, docter appts. I know the best way to start baby food! Every time i would give it to her in a spoon she would push it up through her lip and get in her nose! very cute but gross!Good luck!

I have cleft palate....So i called my mom. Use a regular nursing nipple and nip it with scissors so that it flows easier. Then you'll be able to spend the extra money you save on all the extra food she'll be sucking down. Email me if you want for more information.

Your best bet would be to contact a Board Certified Lactation Consultant...the phone call would be free and she may have more info.
