Want your opinions. I've heard people that breastfed their kids until they were 5.
I breastfed mine over 2 years of age then he weaned himself.

I read an article about a woman who got arrested because she breastfed her child who was past the breastfeeding age.
The spouse took a picture of her breastfeeding and when they went to go develop their film, the film employees called the cops on them. This is crazy!
The parents just want memories.

I breastfed my daughter for three years, without issues...and she is a healthy well adjusted child.
She self weaned.

A lot of the time they wean themselves if you let them. I would say there is no set age. Whenever you feel comfortable with weaning. Keep in mind usually around age 1 they are on a cup and drinking cows milk and eating more solids, but you could still nurse at night and pump for the cup.
Down below there was a question about someone just now breastfeeding a three yr old. In my opinion that is overdoing it a bit.

There isn't one. In many countries, women breastfeed until 3-4. In the US most mom's wean by age 2. But there is no "prescribed" time when you must cut it off.
People definitely have their preferences and limits but that doesn't mean yours need to be the same.
My son self-weaned at 14 months and that was fine with me...but I'd be comfortable nursing my baby up until around age 2 with no problems. After that, I'd be more comfortable weaning.
This is what works for me but it by no means is what everyone else in the world needs to do.

By the time a baby can say "Hey, mom, give me some boob"--he's too old. I think it's inappropriate past the age of two, and even that is pushing it a little. It does depend on the situation, though.
Personally, if my four-month-old hasn't weaned himself by around a year to a year and a half, I'll probably start weaning him.
But that's my opinion.
About the mother who was arrested for breastfeeding "past the breastfeeding age"--what exactly is considered past?
If the child was 3-4, or older, I think there could be good reason.
Like it or not, children are humans, and humans are sexual beings. Once children become aware of sexual things (a lot earlier than you might think--I have a 1 1/5 year old nephew, and a 2-year-old neice, both of whom masturbate often), breastfeeding is not only unnecessary, but bordering very nearly on inappropriate.

There is no limit for cut off. In my own opinion a year is good. I weaned my son at about 8 months as he was getting teeth, and I had to go back to work in 3 months.

I think there is a limit on how long you should breast feed your kid. I don't want to offend anyone so i won't say what my opinion is on that. But i feel your child will wing him/herself. If it got to old of an age for me though i would wing. Its just nasty to hear a kid ask his/her's mom if he can have some boob. That is my opinion though so no one please be offended. breast milk and nursing is the best thing a mother can give and a way to bond. more power to ya!

Everyone has different opinions.
My friend is going to give her child breat milk until its 5 years old. But she says she will never let the baby drink from her actual breast.
My aunts breast feed their babies until they start preschool. Some do until the baby can drink from a cup.
I think it all has to do with comfort levels.

My kids weaned themselves at 8 1/2 months. I would have weaned them at one year of age. People in OTHER countries tend to nurse longer as they have no other options for nourishment for their children. (People like to quote the World Health Organization for reasons why to continue nursing)
There are no added health benefits for nursing past the age of 1. Whole milk is fine to use. Some parents continue to stick a boob in their toddlers/preschoolers mouth because they know no other way to show them love and affection. Pretty pathetic.

1 year. You should start supplementing with pumped breast milk out of a bottle for at least one feeding by 6 weeks. This way your husband, mom, dad or friends can help with the feeding. By 1 year you should ween your baby and all is good.
