My son will be 9 right after christmas. Last year I tried to take him with 3 or 4 friends snow boarding. But, no snow. So I ended up taking him with 9 other kids to mcdonalds and the movies. I spent a fortune on candy, juice, and food. Then we went back to the house for cake and games. (not to mention parents came late and I had 5 kids for an extra 1 1/2! Any ideas for things to do this year? Fun and not too expensive?! Let me know!

When did your child stop calling you mommy/daddy and go to mom or dad. My 11yr old calls me mommy still but my 4yr old likes to just call me mom. Mom to me just sounds so plain and yucky while mommy sounds like this upbeat person with a lot of character at least to me anyway.
so how old were your kids when they stopped the mommy/daddy and moved staright to mom or dad?

I used to be calm but now i just fly off the handle at her. I've tried counting to 10, tried asking nicely 1st then firmly, grounding her, taking her stuff away and all the rest. I stick by what i say and the sad thing is she's such a clever girl and she loves Athletics. I have promised her if her attitude changes i'll pay the money for her to join the South East Essex Athletic training squad she's been accepted into as she's so fast and good at it. Has anyone any ideas what else i can do as i don't want to go downhill anymore.

When my daughter was 3 she almost drowned at her aunt‘s house. She stopped breathing, eyes rolled back, stomach was filled with water, and had to be pumped, etc. I was not there, but this is what I was told. She is now going on 8 & since her near drowning 5 years ago, she has this fear of staying behind a closed door hearing the toilet flush. When she was about four years old she would go to the bathroom with the door open & would cry if you made her stay in the public stall or bathroom at home. She now goes to the bathroom with the door close & right before it's time to flush, she opens the door.

I have a 4 yr old girl. I am a young single mom. My daughter is an only child and usually plays alone ince she doesnt have any sibblings which makes me feel sad since if she would of had sibblings she would have someone to play with and wouldnt feel so lonely. She goes to school in the morning but isnt in like ballet or any sport or activity where she can play with kids..I would enroll her in something but I cant afford it and dont have a car to take her...we dont have any neighbors that are her age and she doesnt have cousins either that are her age..I feel sad that she is so alone and sometimes she asks me to play with her but I dont usually feel like it, like I´ll play with her for awhile but then get tired/bored, she has a lot of energy so I have to keep up with her 24/7 and I cant all the time and it makes me feel guilty. I wish I could make it up to her somehow so she wouldnt feel so lonely..what can I do?...

Last Monday night our 6-year-old son wouldn't settle down, it was 11PM on a school night and he was up and literally wrecking his room, my wife tried everything she could think of and finally had enough, and finally gave him one good swat on the butt. That settled him right down and he went to bed. The next day at school he mentioned it to a teacher. Thursday morning a social worker came calling. She had already been to the school and talked to my son, and said she didn't feel he was in "imminent danger", but she still wants to do a follow-up interview with us this coming Wednesday and see our house. We are just sick about this. We hardly ever spank our kids, we always do it as an extreme last resort, we are a very close-knit, loving family- my wife and I together work over 100 hours a week and still take our kids to extra-curricular activities at least 3 nights a week. My wife is terrified that they'll be like "Oops, dust in the corner, we're taking your kids!" What can we do? :(

I'm in desperate need of ideas about what 8 year olds are into these days as I pulled my cousin in the family grab bag. My aunt's help was that she's into "anything girly" which basically was no help at all. Anyone care to offer me some advice on what their 7/8/9 year old girls are into right now? Any insight would help. Thanks a million!

I think it's way too young but I don't have a say. He's academically very smart but of course very irresponsible because he's only 9 years old. His mom is an airhead. I don't mean to put her down but believe me, she doesn't use the brain she has.

Any thoughts?

My seven year old is in the process of being diagnossed with ADHD. We haven't received the confirmation yet. But on Friday he got in trouble in computer class. I asked him what happen, he told me, that he thought he had to much sugar. Yes! This is what he said. He knows he's going to the doctor, but he knows nothing about ADHD. I just told him were going to see why you keep forgetting your spelling words, and why you are having reading problems. (he's not reading yet). But he told me that it was someone's birthday in class, and he had cake, candy, and potatoe chips. He then had computer class, and got in trouble, and got kicked out of class. So does food play a part? If yes, what should I avoid?

She is a screamer, She does not get her way and she will scream like some one is killing her. Compleatly disrespectful, does not mind refused to do chores, does not care about anyone other then her. Lies constantly. What do we do? This is what we have done. Tried Spanking, does not work she just laughs at you, quit doing that long time ago. Grounding, no playing outside, no TV, no speicial grandma fun time. We have also tried taking things away. This child has lived for 3 months just fine with nothing in her room but bed, dresser, and books. What else can we do? How can we get to stop screaming, (and when she screams we do not give in, never have) We will soon have neibors in our apt and don't want them to call the cops, aslo have 16 month old and another on the way. We need this to stop. We have taken her to the mental health place but they wont help us also tried at school but she acts good there. Help

My daughter is usually a very good child. I have been having a problem with her stealing. I have tried every punishment there is, grounding, spanking, taking things away, even going so far as to tell her she is under house arrest (5 days) and that she has no priveleges, no tv, no phone, no computer, etc and must do extra chores. The first incident was gum from a store and I made her take it to the clerk, advise the clerk what she done and refused to take her in that store for a month. I even went as far as to check her pockets before we left any store for about a month. Then this a.m. I catch her with some of my change in her pocket. I threatened to call Santa Claus and spoke with her teacher about who she was hanging around at school. What more can I do? Is it to harsh to tell her Santa isn't coming and really cut back on what she gets for Christmas?

"I don't care!!!!!" when we ask her to comply with a rule, such as a bed time or something like that. When I asked her to go to bed last night and she refused -- I really got angry at hearing this phrase again! I've grounded her for the week: which means that she cannot go over to a friend's house...go shopping....go to an early morning child care program before school that she likes. What do you think about "grounds"????

My son has Autism, and I have been trying to toilet train him sense he was three years of age. We have not made much progress. He can pee on demand but nothing more. He still wets his cloths if you do not tell him to go to the toilet, and we have not even begun to master number two. I would like to hear from people who have delt with this. I want to remind people that my child is disabled so please no mean statements. I will report you for abuse if you personaly attack me because of my childs age and the fact that he is not toilet trained.

My fiance's 6 year old son says I treat him like a baby. I call him pet names that any mother would call a 6 year old, like sweetie and sometimes Snookie. His mom died when he was just 2 and I'm not trying to replace his mom. I asked him why he thinks this. He said it's because I ruffle his hair and occasinoaly pinch his cheeks. But I never do it infront of his friends. He also says it's because I give him a kiss on the cheek before he goes to school and I leave a mark. I hardly ever do. Occasionaly I'll put a note in his lunch box saying "Hope you liked what I packed! See ya later alligator." What should I do? I talked with my fiance and my fiance's talked with him, but he STILL says I baby him. HELP!
